Went online to my account to check transaction history, and saw a few $2 and $3 transactions over the past weeks... with the description of 'Group Liability'. They made no sense to me.
Contacted the group admin.. who got back to me, did some checking and said it was a mistake. (And I'm gonna leave it at that. I give people the benefit of the doubt, but i do have a long memory.. and no i'm not gonna say what group it was. A new venue owner, and it is probable that it was an honest mistake
BUT ... if someone was unscrupulous, it would be a good way to skim money because you don't get a little blue pop up for dollar amounts under 10$L or 50$L or whatever. So probably 95% or more of the people in the group would never notices a few linden gone each week.
Just FYI.. keep an eye out.
... also, i think you can change the minimum amount of $L value before you get the confirmation blue screen. It's um... somewhere..
... oh yeah.. and i'm not that hard up that i was worried about 3$L .. honest.. just the principle.. ya know. |

What you got hit with Norris is a group liability charge. It's a common mistake made by group owners where they forget to take the check mark out of the "accounting" portion of the roles set up. Usually the charge is for listing the group owned land in about places (I think is like 30-40L a week) but it could be a substantial charge (like tier). I got hit by one of these by accident by a very reputable group, it was just a mistake.
Reminder to any group owners (including your fan club group)- check the roles in your group and make sure that the "accounting" section is left unchecked in all roles except for the "owner" of the group (unless of course you intend for others in your group to help pay for stuff)
Edit to add- there is no blue pop up notification that will apply to group liabilities- it's just taken out of your account and unless you check your transactions regularly you will never know. _________________ Just call me Jo

I would just about bet on it being an honest mistake. When you set up a group, Pay Group Liabilities one of the very last options in a very long list of options which are often very confusing and have real unclear meanings. By the time the new group owner gets there, their eyes are glassed over. It defaults to Yes for every role. You have KNOW to unclick it when you set up a group.
What are group liabilities? Real good question!!!!! As far as I can tell, parcel listing fees for any parcel the group owns and has listed in Search/Place. LL charges a fee for this and if the parcel is owned be a group, any group member in any role that has this 'pay group liabilites' box checked gets hit with an equal share of it. This is set fee, and the money goes to LL, not the group owners. So no, it would be a real bad way to try to skim group fees off the unsuspecting...wouldn't work at all.
Tier on group owned land does NOT appear (as far as I can tell) to be included in Group Liabilities even if there is insufficient tier donated to the group to cover the tier on the parcel. I think what happens then is that either someone ponies up the tier or LL reclaims the land and auctions it off as abandoned. Tier is NEVER taken out of your lindie balance, only out of your USD balance or credit card (Group Liabilities hit your lindie balance only and can take it negative). Personally, I've always made REAL sure there was enough tier donated to any of my groups that have ever owned a parcel, so I could be mistaken about the lindens reclaiming the land and I would hope there'd be plenty of notice before that happened if I'm not. _________________ Joy is in the ears that hear

I've donate land to a group, several times. Not sure of all the technical stuff ... but it ends up in my land liabilities (I can just have a tad more land at the tier level is all I've noticed).
/me runs off to check the accounting on my groups _________________ Ray

yeah... it's not so much under-the-radar.. more that the group owner never unchecked that in the group roles.... Ive had to tell group owners to uncheck that box, and then everything works out cool.... the group liability charge will never be more than a few bux.... and the group owner has no idea usually that he's pulling in these few pennies _________________ DJ Doubledown on The Sixty-One ~ SL DJ & Club Scene Blog

The group owner isn't pulling in anything, with or without any idea. The payment does NOT go to the group. It goes to LL to cover the parcel listing fee. It may slightly decrease the amount being pulled out of the group owner's pocket by the Lindens, but it doesn't pull anything into the group owner's pocket. _________________ Joy is in the ears that hear

Yes, that was puzzling me, Norris. I got a L$1 taken out of my account on 22nd April.
It lists the group and I will try to contact them. Thanx _________________ Real life website http://www.lewismusic.co.uk |
