Mebbe I'm just stupid or somethin', but after visitng a handful of instrument builders, it appears that the guitar and the animation are marketed as a single package.
Can it really be true that this is just the way it is? What if I want to play the guitar from Vendor X, but use the Pete Townshend windmill from Verndor Y? Can I do this? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for a la carte vendors?
As long as I'm on it, how come I rarely see an animation for a *singing* guitar player? Most musos look like they come from the Jeff Dunham school of ventrilo-singing-osity. Am I just looking in the wrong places? _________________ http://KrellKaru.com

Due to the limited range of facial expressions, singing animations aren't all that common beyond the basic of holding a mike to your mouth. Kim Seifert tried one for a while but I don't know if she still uses it. _________________ Silas Scarborough

| Hope by now you've found what you need, but if not, check out Gibson Island inworld- they not only give away really beautiful prim guitars for free, but offer some with and some without installed anims. Each non-animated instrument comes with a stool with a sitting-playing anim, for those who haven't settled on a standing one they like yet. After playing with their J-45 True Vintage, I can hardly imagine shelling out thousands of L's for another instrument. Free or not, they're gorgeous! |

Another approach is to leave the mic on your computer (assuming you have one that's not your performance vocal mic) ON and turn on either the "upper body" built in voice animations (in your inventory) or purchase a set inworld. Most venue owners turn off voice functionality . . . so we won't hear the time lagged echo voice. If they haven't, be sure to turn down your input voice volume in the SL client.
these animations generally don't work in tandem with any animation attached to an instrument (or sitting place).
I don't think you'll find these as expressive and varied as the dance animations that come with most dance HUDS or guitars. But it is a way to try if you'd like. _________________ Edward Lee Lamoureux

Yeah, I stumbled upon Gibson Island within a day or two of being a new-rez. Loaded up on all their wares. I used to use their SJ-200*, but found that having to rez a stool to have a playing animation was cumbersome.

I also found Krakov Letov of KLP guitars. His F512 is a modeled on a Guild F512. The guitar I use to stream into SL is a mid-70's Guild F-412. I bought his F512, made a couple of small changes, and now my av has a guitar that is an (almost) dead ringer to my alter ego's.
I still would like to be able to mix and match guitar and animation, tho. Not that the KLP ones are bad - just would be nice to present different looks at different times.
And singing with the mouth closed makes it hard to project properly

Hmm... I haven't played much with SL voice. Does it have a function that detects when you are actually speaking, and move your mouth accordingly? _________________ http://KrellKaru.com
