Sorry to start off on such a negative note, but... I need help. I have Alesis Multimix 8 Usb, and want to stream music through it to the Jetcast plugin for Winamp.
The Jetcast doesn't seem to see that the Alesis is plugged into the computer, so when I try to select it from the Device list, it's just not there.

| Under Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices, click the Audio tab - is the Alesis set as the default Recording device? If not, try setting that first, then start Winamp & see if it recognizes the Alesis. |

Howdy. I have an Alesis Multimix 8 track Firewire. Have NOT been able to get the computer to detect it through the firewire interface...and after searching some forums, it looks like it's not that uncommon.
So I basically use it as an analog mixer, run the 'line out' to my soundcard's 'line in'. Then choose the sound card when streaming.
In winamp, I use the standard "Nullsoft SHOUT Cast Source DSP"... which i don't see on their website anymore. If you want a copy of that one, send me a notecard inworld and I'll email it to you. |

Hi Norris. Your advice is the only one that seems to have helped (thanks Jambalaya, too! - but it didn't work)
I connected the Line Out on my soundcard to the 2-Track Out on the mixer, and it seems to work...
The only thing is, there are some cracking and popping sounds sometimes (when I play back a test run). I've used this cable before, and I have this problem only when I use it. Is it because of the quality/cheap cost of the cable, or could something have damaged it? Or could there be something the matter with my soundcard's Line Out? |

A word of warning to anyone using a Mac who has the USB 1.1 version of the Multimix. It doesn't work anymore with anything about OS X 10.49, and not with Leopard. I bought one and so did another SL musician from Nashville, at the same time at Guitar Center in Nashville. There are issues with USB Audio CODEC with them in OS X Tiger and Leopard, making them essentially unusable as they will "jump clock" on you from 44.1k to 48. It was intermittent, too. We took them both back. She got the Firewire version, and I went for a non-USB mixer to put on the front end of my 002R and in front of the MBox2 when I travel, to make doing the SL shows easier.

I used to teach, so I'm used to repeating. (please note: that's a joke, come see me inworld and you'll know I'm full of sh**)
Mixer - line out.
Computer soundcard - line in.
... it might have been a typo on your part, but if it wasn't, make sure the line is going to the 'line-in' on the soundcard.
And if you're not sure about the cable, only way to test it is with a multimetre (if you know how to do that stuff.. which i don't) or get a new one.
... hope that helps... |
