I can't believe I'm just now getting around to this, but so be it, there is only one me. I joined SL in May of 2008 just to have fun, having no idea about the live music scene or clubbing at ALL. And I was really busy finishing a CD (engineering), so I didn't get back on much for a couple months, so I always say my rezz day is not really my rezz day.
Anway, in RL I already had the production company/record label (Lemon Lady Productions), so when I found out about SL music, I just pulled the whole thing into SL (it is still based in RL, though, one foot in, one foot out). It was a godsend for one of my clients, DaveSmall Finesmith, who lives in a remote area and can't gig or find band members. So wow, were we excited, hard to promote CDs without gigs!
Dave has been gigging for about 5 mos as of Mar 2009 and we have a nice, big beach hangout with a casual stage full of full stuff to play on. Our fans love to grab an instrument or jump on our awesome drum kit and 'play' along with Dave and Dave sure loves a 'band'. Dave has just started gigging at the hangout (we use it for mostly biz and sound checks, etc), as a pretty casual, fun thing. We are still working out the time, so our diehard friends and fans can come and so we can meet new people, too! When this gets going we plan to have friends come play, as well. But I am no venue owner, noooooooooo, this is our fun thing and use of, as Dave puts it, Eti's Barbie Stage. lol
Lemon Lady Productions is all about the music, all the time. That must come first and the art must be served. I've seen too many wrecks and destroyed musicians with major record deals who have 'made it'. So that is not the point. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. We should not compete, we should be a community, and this forum is an excellent place for that, glad to finally be here! I love the biz and the sense of humor and it is just my niche in life. It is where I 'fit'. I am also a musician, when time permits. I play guitar and keys, but only as a hobby, I have no delusions... engineering is my thing, my talent, and I know that and just go with it and try not to be something I'm not. Plus, I love it, I love making music sound as good as it possibly can, I feel like it is a higher calling, if you will. I vant to serve the music...and it serves me, with joy, and lifting me up, and that thing it does that none of us can name. The heartbeat and soundtrack of our lives.
Please get to know me, I am more engineer than mgr, although I am wearing the mgr hat a lot lately, but generally groping around in the dark on that one! So I'm a bit different in that respect. I manage with my engineer head, if that makes sense. I have met so many great people in this business and many are on SL and will be friends for a LONG time, just like in RL music. True music lovers are like a flock of geese, they will find each other, given enough time, and stick together and act stupid and have tons of fun. And only hope that we can make enough not to have to have a 'day job' (unless you love your day job, that is lol).
See you on the Grid. Not as much as of old, no time, but we try to hear other musicians before and after gigs, if nothing else. Maybe I'll get an assistant one of these days and go back to having that fun I came here for. But the 'job' is fun, so hey, it makes up for a lot, this music does. _________________ It's all about the music, or should be...
Cheers,

Nice to meet ya. I think i've seen Dave's name in-world, but not sure if I've caught a set yet.. .will have to keep a keener eye out.
And sound engineering, eh?.. hm... i'd be careful, you could be inundated with questions... by a lot of us .. umm.. non-sound engineers. lol. Hope to see you inworld! |

WOOOT!
Wow! Great to see you here, Etierre.
As a songwriter who came to SL to get heard, I'm totally with you on that. It's a great place. And, I have so much fun at my gigs that I can't hardly believe there's any better way to get the music out than in SL.
Hope to see you around the grid sometime soon. _________________ Ray
