Hi all! Just found this place and know some of you. As Kate Miranda I have been coordinating mainly classical concerts at the Music Island/Sea Turtle Island venue since January of this year. I have been in SL for over two years.
The Music Island venue was developed as a learning project in the open learning community of Cedar Island/Sea Turtle Island. It came about because working as an Officer of the Classical Music group, I saw a number of concerts compromised by builds that were done for looks rather than function and the absence of oversight by sim owners or their delegates to monitor the event for either potential sim crashes (reduce capacity to prevent) or to eject troublemakers.
We had a consultation session in November 2007 and opened just after the New Year.
Since January we've had a live concert approximately weekly which I support with notices, marketing materials, T-shirts, virtual CD tables and hosting. I just started our own group a month or so ago--due to feeling depending on other peoples groups was risky-- and we already have over 250 members.
I was pleased to be able to present on Classical Music in Second Life at the Technology in the Arts conference at the University of Waterloo in May of this year through both a presentation and an in world panel.
I am interested in getting to know new classical artists. We are also thinking about adding an accoustic folk/world music series on a weeknight, but that is predicated on my roping someone else from the community in to help as I am too busy to do more.
We are a dance ball free environment! _________________ Kate Miranda

Welcome Kate!! Hopefully you will find good ahd helpful information here!
On the flip side, because your venue and project are quite different from some of ours, it would be wonderful if you could perhaps add to our FAQs and/or Need Advice topics. The purpose of those areas is to help people new to music in SL benefit from the experiences of 'those who have tread the path'. It sounds like you may have some very good experience to share!!! _________________ Joy is in the ears that hear

Hi Kate.
good to see you. And if you haven't come accross him yet, you should speak with Chaos Noyes. Very talented guitarist who is currently mostly playing the folk, pop, rock stuff in SL, but i know he can play a bunch of classical music as well.
He probably doesn't play it much because I don't think he has found a venue for it... |
