The groups and notices don't bother me that much; it's the IM conference messages. I'm so fed up with those that I've started muting anyone who sends one. If I friend someone, it's not because I want to be a target for IM spam.
As to the number of notices and consolidating groups. If twenty notices are going to go out, it doesn't matter if they go out to one group or ten you'll still get the same number of notices as anyone sending a notice to a personal vanity group will almost invariably send it out to the LME group as well.
I'm not even sure they serve much purpose. If someone wants to hear some live jams, s/he has already done the search and knows your show is happening. So, more than likely, the notice is going to waste the time of people who already know about your show and annoy the people who never intended to go in the first place. _________________ Ever vigilant for da gooses overhead.

yeah, i agree with the IM chatter.
(on an off note: i don't know if it's just my monitor but your messages are really hard to read because they are teal on a blue background... highlighting them doesn't help much. any chance you could pick a darker color? it would help. ) _________________ Thaumata Strangelove (SL)

I'm a person who sends out a lot of notices and IM's, I have to say that the group IM's are what really work, but only if there is a slurl included.
Speaking as a concert attendee- Notices just pile up on me (because I'm a member of so many of the music groups) and I usually end up clicking out of them the second I log in or as soon as they pop up. I usually end up at your concert because of a last minute decision based on an IM, because I can just click the slurl and it doesn't fill up my inventory with a million landmarks to the same venues over and over.
Speaking as a promoter and venue manager- IM's result in instant reactions. The moment I start sending them out, I see people start popping in. I usually don't see many people arrive when I send out a notice.
I know you hate all the IM spam, but if you want people at your concerts, that's what gets them there. _________________ Just call me Jo

I totally understand Silas (and dig the neon blue :OP)
but I actually haven't found any IM chats to be a problem. I did hate the personal IM conferences, but haven't noticed them in awhile. Did those IM conferences turn off or something?
Anyway, yeah, any event that's just about to start an IM message with the slurl is most effective.
Generally I think most people know not to continually chat within a group, but if it starts to get chatty, there's usually someone that says stop chatting. I dunno, may be just me, but the IMs have never been any nusance for me. I'm constantly getting bombarded with group notices though which ticks me off. I have literally 100s when I'm offline.... then about 1 every 30 seconds when I'm online. It drives me nuts. _________________

Personally, I don't mind it at all. Sometimes it gets a little frantic with so many IMs coming in, but clicking the "x" on that tab takes less than a second of my time, and the session does not re-open. I have decided to go to quite a few shows because I got a conference IM with a SLURL included. I have not sent them out myself, however.

A darker colour would be invisible on the Solaris theme that I believe most of us are using. Hopefully a final decision will be made for default skin. |

im on gray!
I do a little IM chatter with my friends list normally selectively, I don't bug those I know may be doing a show or what have you.
I do IM the groups every time with a slurl, I follow the LME format try and do a notice to all the groups I can 20-30 minutes prior with a LM and 0-10 hit the IMs.
If I have know one I go friends conference _________________ "Being drunk is a good disguise.

I dunt like notifications - cos they pile up while I am offline. I don't like conference IMs - cos i get pinged 5 times for the same bloody concert that way. I have perpetrated them myself but usually as a last resort for events with extremly poor attendance or when group IM was unreliable. I prefer group IMs myself - you can expect them at the start of every hour and they don't pile up when you are offline. _________________ The ViBe
