I received a notecard from Tamsin Barzane today responding to the notecards I passed out way back in FEBRUARY! (so you never know)
she is looking for musicians who play African inspired music ... see her nc text here.
if anyone interested I think this is tips only but WOW what exposure to a community in SL who may be under-represented in SL ... you can IM me if you like and I'll help organize, or you can IM Tamsin Barzane directly ...
------
A friend gave me your note regarding live music and gigs, and I don't know if this is still an active concern, but let me try! I have a sim called Saminaka (Virtual Nigeria), and we are sponsoring SL's first African Festival Oct 1-4. It will include masqueraders, stiltwalkers, a decorated canoe regatta, fireworks, a durbar with horses and nobles, exhibits on the Nupe people and Nigerian plants, a treasure hunt, lectures, dj'ed African music parties and more. What we don't have is live music. So to answer the questions on the card he gave me....
Group/community: Saminaka (not all members are African, but a good number are)
Event: African Festival, Oct 1-4
How many members: well, through various groups I have access to hundreds, however it's a homestead sim so we aren't really after a big crowd now. However, I'm negotiating for an academic sim in future, which would mean big crowds could be supported and we would be able to pay outright then, not just tips
How many do I think would show at a live gig? I actually have to limit the advertising somewhat so we wouldn't crash!
Optimum time? Possibly Sunday around 8slt? but this could be flexible.
genre: African
RL African musicians? oh, a variety. I like Lagbaja and Fela, any kora player from Mali, South African groups like Ladysmith Black M., Congo music, etc. _________________ Bourque Rau |
