They're a bit cheaper, definitely sexier, they weren't built by GOP socialists, and they're available now from the Apple store. They just put the pricing up a few minutes ago. _________________ Silas Scarborough

I was actually looking at MACs for the upteenth time last week, while buying a cooling pad for the new XPS laptop.
and the wife was wondering how tough they are as they are so dainty! lol
so maybe you MAC guys and gals can tell me what the most powerful MAC (doesn't have to be a notebook(in fact I prefer desktops.) I did notice though they all seem to be integrated now, no tower? but in a GREAT looking flat panel. can you upgrade (like add Video cards, more HD 's things like that?
I started on PCs with an AppleI then Apple IIs and loved them.. but that was many many ..many, many years ago
I hope to make the next computer a MAC for photo/video work and then to see the new pro tools and Logic _________________ "Being drunk is a good disguise.

The hotrod Mac is still a desktop machine, the Mac Pro, and all come with eight cores at 2.8 GHz to 3.2 GHz. It comes stock with 2 GB of RAM and a 320 GB drive and that goes for $2800. A 23" monitor goes for about $900 and a 30" monitor goes for $1800.
That's for openers. I've got the same machine and I added another 6 GB of RAM plus I filled all the drive slots with 512 GB drives. You've got to back it up so I also added a Western Digital external Firewire drive and I use Time Machine to backup to it. I upgraded to the Nvidia graphics card but it didn't blow me away.
DO NOT buy the memory upgrade from Apple as you can always get it cheaper elsewhere. I got mine from Other World Computing. I also use Western Digital drives exclusively and I believe Apple still does. Don't be afraid of installing anything into this machine. It's so dirt simple that you really won't believe the description and would have to see it for yourself. If you review the machine, check out the gizzards as you'll find the design has incredibly elegant engineering.
Note the MacBook Pro 17" was NOT upgraded in the recent round of changes. A decently-equipped MacBook Pro 17" (as opposed to stock) will cost you prob'ly about $3200 or so. I'm in the market for one but I'm waiting to see what happens as it seems inevitable to me that the upgrades will extend to the 17" model relatively soon.
You can get Logic and Final Cut Express for about $800. Digidesign really pissed me off with how long they took to upgrade Pro Tools LE so I've got it but don't use it. Logic is way, way cheaper. _________________ Silas Scarborough
