How to post to make us, gig hoppers, happy

You go to the Linden Website

you see on the left the HOT SPOTS
click on : search for events.

You will get a new page, with all the events currently posted.
click : Add event

First you see the posting rules.

You may currently post up to 5 events per day.
If you have a gig each monday at noon, you can post 5 of them today.
Takes a few minutes but then your set for the whole month !!!

In addition, your friends will now be able to post events on a parcel that you own.
However, you must set that parcel to show up in Find Places as a Hangout.
If your parcel is not set up as a Hangout,
the parcel will not be available to your friends,
but will continue to be subject to other availability rules.

To further clarify, you may post an event on a parcel if:

You personally own the parcel and it is at least 512 square meters in size.
The parcel is owned by a group that you are a member of
The parcel is in a private island that you are on the access list of
The parcel belongs to Governor Linden
and is set to show in Search Places as a Hangout.
The parcel belongs to a friend, it is set to show in Search Places as a Hangout,
and is at least 512 square meters.

Your friends are able to post events on a parcel that you own.
However, you must set that parcel to show up in Find Places as a Hang Out, for which there is a L$30 per week fee.
You can set this on the Options tab of the About Land screen.
If your parcel is not set up as a Hang Out,
the parcel will not be available to your friends for posting,
but will continue to be subject to other availability rules.

Ok, back to the actuall posting

Event Name
For most of us its good enough to know WHO is playing

Description
Again WHO and a small description of what we can expect,
some even post long, almost novel like descriptions.
Its not interesting to be honest, just give us the info that we want.

Date
Figgers huh

Starting time and Durarion
again an easy one,
However, a lot of times i see wrong times or multiple gigs at the same time in one venue, very confussing for us hoppers.

Category
lots of time people post stupid things in Live Music,
it really makes no sence at all,
we just skip through it till we find what we are looking for
and i am not interested in Free Clothes, Games or Fake Tribute Bands
especially when its posted in the wrong category

It looks stupid and personally i wonder about the skills of that person.
Live Music means euhhhhh Live Music ?

If you don't understand those 2 simple words,
then why would i visit an event hosted by you ?

You can select the LM's that you are allowed to post for,
Double check the location of the event before you post.
Then check again after you post.
It’s so easy to pick the wrong location in the drop down menu.
After that there is a check box in case it is a Mature Event.

If you have filled it in properly you just hit SAVE EVENT.
it will be posted on the website, inworld,  and even through the world map people are able to find you, a small star on a map means there is a listed event going on.

Two points are important to add here:

1)  The EVENT NAME should always begin with the musician's name, properly spelled.  Do not put asterisks, exclamation points or any other special characters in front of the musician's name or when a fan tries to search events on the name of the musician, they will not see your listing (search within the live music listings is a simple string search on the first characters of the EVENT NAME).

If you put JOE BLOW playing at MY PLACE in the EVENT NAME, anyone searching on Joe or Joe Blow will see the listing and know to come to your place to hear Joe Blow perform.

If you put MY PLACE presents JOE BLOW your listing will not appear in a search for Joe or Joe Blow.

If you put * * * * JOE BLOW LIVE * * * * your listing will not appear in a search for Joe or Joe Blow.

2)  Do not click the submit button more than once, no matter how long it takes for the page to refresh.  It is running even though it doesn't look like it and if you click the submit button again, you'll spam the list.  This is annoying to both people using the list and to yourself if you have other events to list (you're limited to five listings in a 24 hour period).

JOE BLOW playing at MY PLACE is the only acceptable form for me to view. In fact, it should be Joe Blow playing live at My Place. The all caps I tend to even skip over.

Don't yell at me. Don't embellish with asterisks, exclamation points, etc.

Just give me that artist first, venue second in the title.

Again, I ignore all listings that yell at me for attention as it screams of desperation.

I really wish you wouldn't, Harold. It punishes the innocent. Gigs are posted by the venues mostly - not the artist. I never have any say in how my gigs are posted in the listings. I have been horrified at the results.

Does anyone know how the order of postings in any given hour is determined? I know PG sims go first and mature after, but I can't determine any other rules. It's not alphabetical (which would be the only reason I could think of for bothering to start a listing with an asterisk).

It's nothing to do with PG vs. Mature near as I can tell.  It seems to be in the order they're listed.  If you list early, your post is higher on the list.  At least, this is as near as I've been able to figure out.

Also, it should be worth noting that Mature listings DO NOT appear on the website list, only the inworld search.  So unless your event actually will have mature content, list it as PG.

Very few live music shows really need to be listed as mature (the musician swearing a bit or making a racy comment doesn't really count if the sim itself is mature).

When I go to live music events and search all, the mature events always show up at the bottom of each time slot. It's something I've noticed. I'm glad to know that's not determined by the setting of the sim!

Homeless,
Just a point of minor clarification.

The 5 post limit isn't about how many posts you can make in a single day, because I regularly make 15-20 a week (usually all on Sundays) for the same venue. The 5 post limit has to do with posting 5 events that OCCUR within a 24 hour period.  I often find that I can't post more than 5 due to that.
