|

...so I want to get myself a set of keyboards...I want to have at least 70 or so keys; I want piano-like action and as far as sounds, I only really want a nice piano sound, electric piano sound and perhaps some string sounds...I'm going to venture into EBay land and I'm hoping I can get what I want with $500-$600.
I was wondering if anybody had any advice or recommendations ... specially because I've never bought anything on EBay...
It doesn't have to be a versatile synthesizer or anything...just something I can plug into my mixer and have a nice live piano or electric piano sound _________________ That's where I saw the Leprchaun. He tells me to burn things! -Ralph Wiggum, The Simpsons

the first thing i'd do is go to a music shop in town and play the ones they have to see how they sound and feel. everyone has their own favorites and this is the best way to see what feels good to you.
personally, i'd buy a yamaha motif, but they run about $2600 USD so they're not for everyone. last summer, i sold my yamaha S08 and was very sad to do so. (i was moving to another country, though.. didn't make sense to keep it at the time.)
the S08 was decent, but the piano patch in it didn't compare to the motifs that i've played. i'm REALLY picky, though, after spending 23 years playing classical piano, so you might be happier with something less intense. if you just want something small and have a decent DAW, you could probably get away with a cheap keyboard from maudio or something. they're usually about a hundred bucks. i have one now that i use just to input into other programs and it's good for that. also, unlike the S08, my m-audio doesn't weigh as much as I do. _________________ Thaumata Strangelove (SL)

|

Well, after much thought and research and trying out different products, I've finally decided and purchased a keyboard/piano...
Yamaha DGX-620 Portable Grand w/stand and bench
I didn't buy it over the internet like I said I wanted to. Instead, I went into the local Yamaha music dealer, I also tried some Roland products and Korg products. I originally only wanted to spend $500-600 but I ended up spending $950(Canadian).
I can't wait to introduce it in my sets, but it's been ages since I played so I'll be doing scales for the next few weeks or so and I might even breakout my old piano books. I remember when I could do a Cmaj scale in my sleep. Now, it feels all uncoordinated and sloppy. I wish piano was like riding a bike.
Thanks DD and Thaumata for the advice _________________ That's where I saw the Leprchaun. He tells me to burn things! -Ralph Wiggum, The Simpsons

I really like American Musical Supply (http://www.amercianmusical.com) because they have the same prices are the rest, no tax to most states, free shipping, and the best part for me, they break up payments up to five months over your credit card. That allowed me to buy the 30" Apple cinema display I've drooled over for years by squeezing $300 a month onto the card instead of one big payment. I've had great luck with their service and have bought from them the past 10 years.
