So I've had a MySpace page for the past year or so.. it's kind of fun and help me keep in touch with people. I don't have a facebook account/site whatever.
What I'm wondering.. is how many people have one or the other or both?
Which do you think is better, and why?
I know that i should have both... but uggh... |

Both suck but are pretty much required. Dunno about you but I don't really care if someone's chipmunk died this morning. Well, unless it was a special relationship with the chipmunk.
If you're going to whore yourself on these networks, might as well do the whole job and you'll need Twitter as well. ReverbNation and iLike are there along with The Sixty One for required places to upload your jams.
As you sign up for these networks, always look to how they interact with one another. For example, you can post a tweet and have it automatically propagated to Facebook. In that way, you can notify fans on both networks while only needing to screw around with one of them.
Beware of how much time these things can eat! _________________ Silas Scarborough

There's no pie option, so it's not a valid poll.
I have a MySpace which I rarely visit and never update. I don't have any of the others nor any plans. But, I'm not a musician.
Do any of you know if there's any real way of judging the effectiveness of any of these? Like how many new fans come from one versus the other? _________________ Joy is in the ears that hear

I have a myspace - but it is not for Tommy Cult. Tommy Cult is a cartoon in SL - I dont look anything like him, and did not see the point in creating an identity outside of SL for my avatar. If I want to socially interact with more avatars - I don't look in myspace - I look in SL
I also heard (maybe someone can verify) that facebook were removing accounts of SL identities? I am puzzled as to why people want to extend their SL persona beyond SL - when the only people they are going to be 'friends' with are in SL in the first place? I understand there is the whole secrecy thing - especially in SL. How many profiles to you see where people insist on NOT mixing RL and SL??
Silas has the most important point...how much time do you have to spend keeping up with all these things? _________________ TC |

It doesn't make all that much difference to me if relationships are in-person or in-pixels except I'll prob'ly have to buy dinner if it's in-person.
As to anonymity, my situation is different from most as I've deliberately sought to wipe out my RL identity and it's been pretty effective, albeit with some assistance from corporate love. People in RL frequently call me Silas and I get a bang out of that.
Mostly what I've seen on Facebook has been flakes and fortune-tellers. MySpace is at least somewhat oriented to music but still people mostly talk about what they feed their rabbits.
Emphasizing again if you want to use these things, check out Twitter and HelloTxt before you do it as the interfaces can save you a whole lot of time. Or maybe you care about the temperature in Des Moines this morning. _________________ Silas Scarborough

Yeah, i just see them as a way to keep in touch with people/friends i've met through SL, and through my music.
As per Ticious' comment, I don't really think they will gain you any new 'fans', but they can be used to keep in touch with people who you've met , and have a desire to keep in touch with. That's my thinking.
As per the whole page for SL thing, it might not make sense for some, but for me, it just kinda does. I have people that i've know for 20 years in RL who have no idea i play guitar. And if they did know, they probably wouldn't care and it wouldn't impress them in the least. In the same way, I don't necessarily want to share all the details of my mundane life with everyone i've met online through music.
Just different areas of my existence i guess. Then again, I'm kind of a reticent guy to begin with.
I've got a MySpace page, and enjoy checking it every day, but I have a suspicion the tides are sliding towards facebook. I think i'm going to set up an account to see how many people i know are over there.... |

heres my two pence worth (it not worth three pence !) ok..i got 2 myspace accounts a RL an SL one and i got facebook goin too,and i got a page on 61.com u def gonna see an have differant opinions..as always wot works for you, aint always gonna work for so an so,thats life no big deal..but heres wot i got out of em i was told to set up a SL myspace account pretty early on,and ive actually had peeps find me/listen to songs on there an book me inworld on the strength of it,not so much nowadays mainly cos im more well known now ! hahamy RL myspace account has also lead to gig offers in RL,and due to me keepin only musician "friends" on it,ive been able to recieve notice of local events where ive went an had fun an the odd time thats also lead in part to me gettin RL gigs.. the same with facebook, its thru that medium ive gotten involved with a local acoustic setup that means i play RL gigs,at least once a week, sometimes more, also having a 61.com account means im able to upload songs was zero hassle that peeps inworld can tune into....i know some people see these sites as being more drain of time or wotever, but for me a few minutes here or an there is not a problem..im also slowly adding videos to youtube...cos ive had a couple of IMs from peeps who have heard me on there, but the ones uploaded are pretty crap,so im in midst of settin that to rights ! i spose if im honest i came into SL for the sole reason of promoting my own music, and i see these sites as one more extention of that, and in my own experiance they work nicely ta very much...ive been on ya myspace site a couple of times norris, ive seen the vids u have in it...all good stuff...u consider adding more to 61.com?... |
