|
|
Hi All,
So poor Xen and I are having major problems with static on his registered version of Nicecast.
We have removed the plist as described in help, and we still get static after 20 minutes of streaming.
I've suggested uninstalling and reinstalling a few times, and that hasn't helped either.
When we test using just streaming tracks from itunes there is no static, and it will run and run as long as we want it to.
When we add the mixer and it is all selected as it should be in Nicecast (we know it is setup right as the first 19 minutes the sound is fab), then we get static after 20 minutes.
We are both both mac users, so tell me in as much mac related jargonnery as you like. I know a fair bit about his setup (for someone that is 3.5k miles away).
Xen is on a MacBookPro 2.2ghz with 2 gig of ram, 10.5.3 (might be 10.5.4).
Any suggestions are welcome |

Gawd I hate that noise!
You mentioned having deleted the plist. Doing so wipes out any stream settings saved previously. Did deleting the plist file do that much? If not, then you somehow didnt delete the right file which is:
~/Library/Preferences/com.rogueamoeba.Nicecast.plist
The ~ means the User account's Library - not the Root Drive's Library.
(I apologize if you know this stuff - just want to make sure)
If you have deleted that file and it is still acting weird, it may be that you are entering the license number incorrectly. Follow the License... menu item under the Nice cast menu and click the I Lost My License button. An email will be sent to you with the number you can paste in to avoid errors.
This will probably fix everything, or if not can lead to a support request with Nicecast. The only other thing I can think of that MAY be related is the file permissions involved.
Here's an old article (Panther was current at the time) but is still valid with 10.4 (I don't know about beyond but I suspect so) that is good general information that may help. I do these thingys from time to time myself.

You may already know all this and have done this too and if so again, I apologize. Good luck and please let me know if I can do anything more with more info. _________________ This text appears at the bottom of my posts. |

It's worth checking off the variables and it sure doesn't sound like it's registered. I'd check that one just to be absolutely sure. The symptoms just scream it given that it works perfectly for the first nineteen minutes. If it were a general problem such as a memory leak that builds up over time, likely many people would be seeing it. Since we don't see that and Nicecast forces you to stay pretty current on the operating system, it's likely the configuration you're trying to run is much like anyone else's. Therefore, it's got to be specific to your system. The step that may be missing after a re-install is a re-registration. It may just need you to put the serial number back in.
Please do confirm so we know if you're fixed. _________________ Ever vigilant for da gooses overhead.

Thanks Nad!
Yeah that was the plist we removed. Also we know the licence is correct.
I will however pass on the url to Xen, and lets get some permissions fixed :O
Next step is gonna be the nicecast support ... I'll draft a mail for him to send (I am the geek he is the talent LOL!).
If anyone else wants to chip in with an idea feel free.. we'll try anything at this stage!
Thanks all ! |

Thanks Silas,
Yeah .... I think we are gonna do an uninstall, disk permission, then re-add the licence.
If that then fails, I think we are gonna write to nicecast, and let them loose.
I wish there was an easy way for me to remote access his mac, so I could swish around and check it all.
It's a perplexing one to be sure.
I'll keep you all updated, and thanks |

Toxic, I'd go straight to Nicecast with the question as repairing permissions hasn't done anything in quite some time. It won't hurt anything but it's not likely to correct anything either. Sorry about all the troubles you're having. _________________ Ever vigilant for da gooses overhead.
