Hi,
I wrote to Rogue Amoeba with a similar question and here's their reply:
"To broadcast from iTunes and your microphone at the same time, select iTunes as your Source in the Input drawer. Then, go to the Effects window and add a VoiceOver effect to overlay audio from your microphone. This will combine the audio from both iTunes and your mic."
I haven't actually tried it. I sing into a mic, play a keyboard on some songs and sing to backing tracks on others. For me, a simpler solution was to put all my backing tracks on an iPod and run the mic, keys and iPod into my mixing board and then stereo line out from the board to my computer.
This allows me to monitor from the board instead of the computer so there's no latency too.
Good luck!

Although i'm not used to stream myself, i speak from some experience from my past audiojob, At least the way Eva describes works perfectly. Using all your equipment external, and sending the stereo output to your computer for streaming up is a good way. First off all, you hear your final mix before it is going into the stream, so the best way for yourself to monitor it.
On the other side, when you are working on a protools set, and on the same computer is SL running, there can be problems with uploading your stream. Some people use 2 computers, one for sl, and one for the audio applications.
Another possibility can be, use the stereo output from protools, send that do your dididesign rack, and from there stereo output to your main stream.
Good luck with your solution.

Are you trying to sing to a multitrack Pro Tools session file? Give me more info and I can help you with this. I use the same system.

Hey again... Any sound that you get to your computer, you can stream into SL.
BUT... (important)... if you are streaming your CD's music into SL... PLEASE DO NOT BILL IT AS LIVE MUSIC.
Or else people in the forum will probably send a search party out for you .. and it won't be a welcome wagon. Just call it something else, like CD stageplay, or listening party, or anything but 'Live Music'

.Contrary to rock bands and the likes, the music I perform requires time to prepare and get ready. The earliest live performance could maybe happen in middle/end of April.
One thing I could do is use my current recordings for concerts and the likes since I have the WMA files.
But where would I host those files? Is there such a service on SL or would I need to basically host the music files myself? |
...and I'm just a rock/folk singer who takes no time to get ready to sing.
However, I did take time to read through stuff and find out how to stream and perform in SL...

If you're still stuck after the homework, send me an IM in-world, and I'll see if I can help. Gotta warn ya though... I work on a PC
/me ducks to avoid the debris being thrown from all those artsy Mac users.
p.s. -- spend some time in-world... and you'll understand the '/me' reference.
Hope to hear you soon. |

Hey,didn't mean any disrespect toward rock music.
My apologies if you got offended.
Thanks for the links. It does explain, but still.
Looks quite complicate to actually get music to stream in SL,and cost money if one is to use a shoutcast.Hopefully i will find a free or cheap shoutcast server somewhere to not have to deal with lagging and low bandwidth |

Nothing that's worthwhile is free. All of us who stream our audio pay for the service.
However, most venues have their own streams, so after you've seen some more shows, you can perhaps perform at an open mic event where the venue provides the stream. None of this stuff is as difficult or complicated as it may first appear. _________________

We tend not to differentiate too much between Linden Dollars and real currency. You can indeed rent a stream with L$. There are several people here on this very forum that provide that service, and charge varying rates for the number of listeners and the length of time you want the stream. A typical rental cost for a standard 100 listener stream is between $L3500 - $L4000 per month. _________________
