After upgrading to 10.5.4, I find that SnapZ Pro will no longer activate movie capture by double-clicking the window or by pressing Return, either of which were acceptable previously. The culprit is also possibly the latest release candidate as it wouldn't be the first time that SL has broken video capture. _________________ Silas Scarborough

Excellent resource with multiple user snapshot reviews of Snapz Pro, ScreenFlow and a brief reference to iShowU.
As it is my purpose to edit with Final Cut Studio, iShowU may well serve the purpose. The screen capture protocol is the same as FRAPS for the PC so it is reasonable to expect the same frame rate on the Mac as the PC, given equivalent power in each machine, and this Mac is substantially more powerful than the PC I used for FRAPS.
Words at present. Empirical data to follow. _________________ Silas Scarborough

The implementation of ScreenFlow is quite well done and it was not difficult to capture very high resolution video from the desktop. However, in attempting video capture with SL running the result showed a tremendous amount of full-screen flickering. Has anyone run into this problem and if so what did you do about it?
Also, the CMD-SHFT-2 key sequence to end video capture is intercepted by Second Life. The option to change it is greyed-out in the Preferences. Does the capability to change the key sequence get enabled when you buy the product?
My system is a Mac 8-way with loads of memory and a GeForce 8800 video card running OS X 10.5.4.
I have to run an experiment with iShowU to see if the flickering manifests itself there as well. I doubt the problem is ScreenFlow as the quality of the video captured from just screwing around with the desktop was superlative when saved as a lossless 1920x1200 Quicktime movie. _________________ Silas Scarborough

Additional information on flickering: There is a bug report for flickering in this circumstance that is apparently circumvented if a second monitor is unplugged. Even if that were effective it would be useless as I need to kick off the capture from the second monitor or kick in and out of full-screen in SL between every shot.
So this extends my original question to those who have had success with ScreenFlow. If you are using it with a single monitor, how are you doing it.
There's also some suspicion that having Snapz Pro loaded has some bearing on it but this didn't seem to hold up on further investigation. I don't have it as a startup item so I don't see any relationship.
All of the above has come through browsing the Apple support docs. _________________ Silas Scarborough
