***The Originals***This is a group for musicians that compose/write and perform 100% original music only.
Original = You made it and have all legal rights to it
Reason is that it would be nice to see how many only perform their own stuff in SL.
Right now we are 2 members: Jana Kyomoon and myself.
A minority indeed but damn proud of it
IM me inworld if you think you should be in the group.

You just contradicted yourself. Should probably say "This is a group for musicians that compose/write and perform 75% to 100% original music."

Hi Torben...just a few respectful points from me....
1) What is the group designed to achieve? I like the idea that as a solely original material act I could be located by those only interested in hearing original songs but on the other hand there are ALOT of music groups out there and those folks interested in original music only are probably pretty thin on the ground and are already members of IMG and LME. When I message IMG and LME I normally state in my couple of lines that I do my own material so that a prospective listener can make a decision whether they are into that or not. How do you think this group complements those that already exist?
2) "The Originals" as a concept sound very familiar...like I think it was done already in SL? I seem to remember hearing Born Again Pagans as part of an "Originals" show so maybe it might be worth checking with them in case such a concept already exists and you guys can help each other?
Cheers Torbs

Yep, one Pol Arida (if I remember the name correctly) ocassionally sets up shows called 'The Originals' where a couple of bands each play half an hour of their own stuff. It's not on a regular basis though and each show takes place at a different venue. I know of one at Pixel Hill and of one at The Vibe, but it could very well be that there have been more already.

Another question might be, is this group limited to musicians who play ONLY originals (meaning they never play a cover in any of their gigs) or would a musician who sometimes plays 100% originals and other times plays 100% covers and still other times plays a mix of originals and covers be invited to join? There's a good number of musicians of this sort around.
Also, I don't understand where/what this group is. Is it an SL group like LME and IMG or some other kind of group? If it's an SL group, do you plan to make it open for joining or invitation only?

Thank you Norris, Djai, hexx and Ticious for your replies.
My only reason was that it would be a group with a list of original composers for people inworld to be made aware of with some drumming here and there.
Thats why I felt it was musicrelated.
Anyway,
Seems my research wasnt good enough and I wasnt aware of all the important things you have pointed out.
I would like administration to remove this thread, please, if possible.

Your group definitely does sound music related, Torben, and with a little deinition, might be very useful. It's only a question of understanding your goals.
As stated in the About section of the forum, it's our policy to not delete, remove or edit threads unless they are clearly spam (and then all we do is remove any links).

Hey torben there's no need to throw this idea out!!! The fact that you and Ed had the idea makes it legitimate and nothing good or bad that is said on here will change that. I just fancied a little discourse on the subject because I was interested.
I was intending to join the next time I am in world.

I'm also not opposed to the idea, though I'm not sure how it would be used. Group space is at a premium of course.
But I could see, say, an originals music festival as an event.
I actually do two covers now out of about 50 songs, but could easily avoid that two percent.

I think I might have fallen into this category earlier last year but for the past few months I have been playing a 20 minute keybord set in the middle of my 60 minute shows, where I do covers (and I have to admit some of them are even a tad cheesey). However, the long term goal is to write original music on piano as I build up my playing experience on that instrument. So I could possibly drift into the nearly 100% category in 2010

originalsI sometimes (like today) do an "all original" show. I can do that for about 45 minutes... so I have to fill with more talk than I usually do, to get to an hour. I tell the stories around the compositions. Need to write more....
: >
but usually, I mix originals (about 7 per show) with covers (12-13)
