Anyone need a RL gig in the SF Bay Area?I'm booking a show right now at the Rock-It Room in San Francisco. The owner is REALLY open about Second Life simulcasting -- he wants to make it BIG. Philip Linden came to my last show and said he'd crank up his own PR machine next time I did a simulcast in the city. He wants to make it BIG, too. I have 3 spots open. Who wants to be on the bill with me??

45 minute flight for me.
They just barely have time to serve beverages to the passengers between takeoff and landing.

There's actually a chance you could beat me in a race to the club, Zak ... you up for the challenge?

Ha ha... well, as you know Babble, that's 45 minutes of flying... sandwiched between driving to LAX, getting through security, getting on and off a plane, getting from SFO to the club.
So my 45 minutes just became three and a half hours.

Keep in mind, though, I have Bay Area traffic to contend with.

Man, don't think I would discount that fact at all.
You and I live in two of the crappiest traffic areas of the entire planet. If there's one thing about which both SoCal and NoCal folks can show sympathy toward each other, it's being stuck in traffic.
Anyway, back on topic: I think this gig will be incredibly fun for you. Once you get there, that is.

Zak - you can drive there in less than 3 1/2 hours....probably even the coast highway lol......I have made that trip a number of times - cept...I usually like to stop in Monterey....and if I have golf clubs in the car .....it takes longer to get to SFC LOL

Tommy, my friend, that's 400 miles, door to door. On a day with no traffic at all (as if), that's six hours. On a real day, including getting out of LA and into SF, it's more like eight hours.
I'd fly, thanks anyway.

Hmm, add time to drive to LAX, time to drive from SFO, time to park, get a rental car (or taxi), time to get through security, sit around waiting at the gate, board the plane (and wait for everyone else to store their crap that they shoulda checked), time to deplane while all those same folks pull their crap that they shoulda checked back out, it sounds pretty close to a wash to me (considering most of that traffic is IN the LA and SF areas and not in between). But it's been nearly 15 years since I lived out there and had to make that trip.

Highway 1 along the coast probably adds another 100 miles to the trip, along with another couple hours at least to compensate for a two-lane narrow twist along harrowing cliffs that drop 300 feet to the rocky shore, not to mention getting stuck behind that terrified driver who won't push it beyond 25 MPH. Beautiful drive, though - talk about scenery! Wow!
Unfortunately, time usually dictates a beeline to I5 (or LAX of course).
ETA - sorry, didn't see your post, Tish, before posting.

It's an INCREDIBLE drive, one of the world's finest scenic routes, if you have all the time in the world and nowhere particular you have to be.

I live about six miles south of LAX, in the beach cities. I can be there in less than 15 minutes, providing PCH isn't in hell mode.

That looks so cool. Makes me wish I still lived out there. There is so much I miss about San Francisco after a decade there, from the music scene to my good friends I made, to the wonderful, wonderful, amazing and plentiful pot.
I don't miss the traffic, the cost of living, the gas prices, or the fear of driving across a bridge or under or on top of an overpass and praying to anyone who is listening that today is not the day for the "big one."
I'm tentatively booked at The Fillmore on next Valentine's Day as an opener to celebrate Merl Saunder's 75th Birthday. Only "real life" gig on the horizon for me. The show is not yet confirmed, but its in the works even this far out. Valentine's is Merl's birthday.
I'm coming out for AES for a week, hope there is something SL-related around that time the end of September.
Meanwhile it might be fun to do what you guys have done and get a Nashville local "real life" show of several SL artists together to play locally and simulcast it all back into SL. The irony? We'd each make more money in-world than real world that night, too.

Geez Zak...being from Calif..and especially LA beach area...i figured your Porsche 997 Turbo would make it under 4 hours easy! LOL (i bet Zak is thinking...what sort of IDIOT is this Tommy guy - as if I would drive my Porsche all the way to SFC to get 'keyed' or 'coined' or whatever is popular in SFC)!
Ok...I know the coast is a longer drive and it certainly is a good one (rock falls and all) and yes the freeways are hell. We are used to distance - I used to drive 406km to see a client (only 2 times a year) and then drive back same night (which yes was silly but saved a motel for the night).
Anyway - I wonder what you guys are gonna do in SFC if someone comes to the door with 1200 lindens (or watever $5 of US play money converts to these days lol ) and...that makes me wonder...has anyone ever SEEN a linden? or....do we all just 'believe' they exist?
OMG Von - don't you dare infer that some peeps will make MORE money playing in SL RIGHT NOW...than they EVER will playing in RL RIGHT NOW. Next thing we will have all these stingy venue owners offering less LOL (I am kidding of course..but....it sure IS rather Ironic - considering the amount of discussion that would lead people to believe it was the other way around
