Garageband problems when streamingI've been streaming and performing for a while now. I use Nicecast, buy a shoutcast stream in world and stream from garageband. i have a number of problems that I'd appreciate advice on.
1. Some backtracks I have used successfully in the past, suddenly do not work ( i can't hear and they don't broadcast when my stream is on, but if i stop the stream, they work). the only changes i have made was an experiment to switch my source and play with some online backtracks, which doesn't seem to work reliably (of course , i have to switch nicecast off to switch sources , which is another problem, but not the biggest issue.
2. Some backtracks almost seem warped when i play them, and other have significant differences in volume levels, that i seem unable to control.
Please help. I've had to ditch some of my favorite tunes because i can't get them to work. All suggestions appreciated.

This appears to be a corrupted prefs file.
locate the file com.rogueamoeba.Nicecast.plist
it's in your main drive's Library/Prefs folder
delete it.
A new one will be created - but you will have lost your saved stream settings.
This file seems to go bad periodically. here's how I handle it.
Once I have my settings set in nicecast, I exit nicecast and save a copy of
com.rogueamoeba.Nicecast.plist in another folder.
Then when the file /Library/Preferences/com.rogueamoeba.Nicecast.plist goes bad instead of deleting it I replace it with the saved version.
This should fix yer problems. If it does not please let me know.

For my pic (back when I had one) I took it into Photoshop and downsized it before I brought it into the forum. I'm not sure if there's a way to downsize it here.
Meantime, as long as the guys like it . . .
But I am gonna move this thread over to the streaming/Mac/advice/technical forum. It may be very helpful to others in the future.
Thanks for coming here to ask Gigi!!!

GraphicConverter for Mac is the best deal for just about anything short of the really insane stuff you can do in Photoshop. It's shareware but has been very well supported for, oh, twenty years now and it's less than $40 US. Excellent deal.

Aw, comon, Silas!! Wouldn't just anyone pay $1k for Photoshop just cuz?
I dunno if it supports the Mac, but there's a free one that lotsa folks say is just about as good as PS. The name is slipping my mind just now though. Oh!! It's called Gimp. Check that out. If it works on the Mac that should do ya for free.

I'm so cheap that I got Photoshop with an academic discount and I am STILL using that license! I don't even know how many years that has been.
(This doesn't refer back to when I was attending school as they didn't even have cars at that point, much less computers)
I use very little shareware as, despite the reputation for gouging, Apple dropped the price on Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio a few years back and they're excellent values.

I do have gimp, but with snow leopard, it seems to have a glitch or 2, so i have been unable to try it. Thank you all for all the info tho, it is very helpful.

I use GIMP for all my Mac picture editing. You might want to give it another try, Gigi. Yes, I am running SL.
