Hi!I can't believe I want to try this but, Online nobody can see you panic, right?
I'm very..very amateur. But since I have this guitar, a voice, and SL...why not try to embarass myself in front of loads of anonymous internet people, right?
I have the stuff I need, and can stream. Now...it's all about getting the nerve, finding someone willing to let me have an open mic slot, and torturing the poor unsuspecting souls who might show up!
So in addition to poring over all of the posts already here, I'm open to any and all help/advice/castigation/insults...for getting started.
Oh...and I normally sing contemporary praise stuff...not a lot of that out there in SL right now, from what I've found.

Nice to meet you. Lots of info here, some more usefull than other.
But Maine is far too northerly to be able to sing in SL. The cold blocks the internet. Just kidding... i'm burried in snow just east of you..
Being nervous is normal, ya just gotta plow through it. Open mic slots should be easy to find. And the praise stuff... well a lot of the contemporary praise music that i hear i wouldn't know it was 'praise' music unless someone told me. I heard some really heavy metal band the other day.. with real gutteral vocals and stuff.. and was informed that it was praise. who knew? lol
Actually i think there are a few others that do a bit of 'praise' type music. Da Blues Preacher is maybe one? via heavy riff blues guitar of course.. and i was told that Bosco Constantine does a sunday morning gig of praise music.
Regardless, i would take it as a plus if fewer people are doing it. More room to create a path...

/me waves to Jerboa!
Yah, talk to da Bluez man . . I think his name in game is Srvc4u Conagher, but I may have that slightly wrong, at least in the spelling. I know he hangs out here some so with any luck at all, he'll hop in. He's an awesome musician and has been around this block long enough to give you good directlons.
Good luck to you!

srv4u?!
I've been to his shows. He's amazing. In fact he's on my short list of "let's see what's happening tonight".
Looking him up would be like saying. "Say...there's this guy...BB? You might have heard of him..give him a shout."
I'd just stand and point. "Uh...erm...uh...oh? no I don't play this...it's my..um..I was taking it to the shop for...um...oh look at the time!"

Lol, don't be silly. I don't personally know Svr4u, but from all I've been told he's a great guy. It's been my experience that most SL Musicians are, and that most are ready, willing and eager to help out the newcomers.
And you DO know what Svr4u stands for, don't you?
Besides, if da Blues Preacher is BB King, who do you think just greeted you above . . . Norris and Djai are pretty big stars too (Cat Stevens and Elton John maybe?)!!!

/me blushes. Thanks Tish.. i'll pass you my standard promo tip later. lol. Don't believe her though... i'm just some dude in my basement who is happy/lucky to be playing to more than the 4 corners of the room.
But seriously, you'll find most of the 'big names' (whoever they are) are pretty helpful and approachable. As long as they are not getting ready for a gig, playing, or right after a gig, i've found that lots have been very helpful to me over the past 18 months.
I think that SL live music in general doesn't really reward arrogance and disrespectful musicians. I've met a couple.. but probably less than 5%..
So .. hop in. If you have a question, ask away. Worse case.. they don't answer you.

I've met a few arrogant souls in my time in SL music. I'm still here and they're long gone .
