Leaving ALL music groups...

ok so heres the deal, when i joined SL i was told u gotta be in the music groups to give yaself the maximum exposure. So i joined LME,Independant muso wotever(lol) and second life music group(if thats its name)
over a course of time and spamming like crazy, cos thats what i was told you had to do,i kinda realised/discovered that generally HUGE posts and multiple spam is bad form, its kinda a two way street cos i get a screen covered with crap ten minutes preceding and following any given hour im online
so i left some groups and stuck with the one single biggest, going off members ie....LME
however due to idiots who spam a notice as big as war and peace and ego maniacs like Anek Fuchs (large ego, little brain) who use it as their own personal agenda group haha ive decided to leave that too.
so as i leave my last remaining music group LME its members stand at 3214 of which 385 are entered as musicians.im pretty sure at least 95% of that group use events daily to post and see who is playing,so im thinking is my only reason for being in the group purely so i dont feel im out of the loop?
so ive left it..and will give it a week and if my gigs dont dramatically fall in numbers, then i know it was the right thing to do....and maybe if you are reading this and are a musician..well,worth a try??....im sick and tired of the bloody spam....i will give it a week and let you know if i see any noticeable differance, beyond a clear screen and not havin to put up with muppets using it as their own personal ego chat/trip

Why not just turn off the notices for that group?  You dont have to get them in order to send them.

Well, thats also an interesting point,if im and have turned off notices daily..whats the point in that? im turning them off for a reason surely? so i may as well not be in the group?!..that was also a point flitting thru my tiny mind.So as i say i give it a week..you probs have to consider that the music ""community"" is quite small in SL and the majority know how the events page works so im thinking, music groups to know who is playing right now?...was a nice idea but maybe its already past its sell by date.maybe this isnt for everyone, but it may be for me,time will tell..
ahh by notices i actually mean, the IM chat..and not the drop down notice thing,if that makes sense hahaha

Oh MAN!  BB ... I'm trying to concentrate on my solution.  I've got it. It's cool!  But, it's gonna take at least 3 more weeks to get this puppy up.

And, you are talking at the #1 group notice and IM hater in the bunch.  But, until I get my solution done, I can't squalk.

Some people know about it.  But, while it's still just foo-foo dust, I'm being quiet ... except for this little outburst.  BUT, it's your fault!! You hit my hate-button!  (not against you .. against groups).

You caught Anek's little titrade, too .. hehe .. I added my one liner but backed out when Max got irritate and Anek started firing back .. haha .. somedays are better than others  Laughing

BB, I left LME the other night following an exchange with Anek.  I've stayed in IMG.

Hehe Gav.  The advice that goes around is to turn off the notices (which I did ages ago).  Okay, what's the point of sending the notices if folks in the group are turning them off as spam?

You know, I do go to events from time to time when I see them in the group spam from the big groups.  Usually, that's really early in the morning when I can actually see the notices, in the afternoon and evening, they just fly past.  The appropriately formatted ones disappear to a hulking bunch of stuff copy/pasted from some bio note card before I can actually read it.  Most of the time, I find myself looking at a slurl and having no idea who the artist is.  Then I just sigh and close the window.

I've seen the guy that started LME, one of the longest standing people in SL Music, trying to address this issue in his gropu.  He was totally unsuccessful.

These groups are our BEST tool for promoting our shows, but with the careless (mostly uninformed) spamming this tool has just about lost it's usefulness.

Ray has shown me the website he's working on along with his "white paper".  It's an excellent solution.  I sooooo hope he (with our help) can carry it forward!

not related to the notices, but it appears i missed some .. err.. discussion in the group IM windows.  If anyone copied it, please forward to me.  Love to keep my ear to the ground and know what's going on....

Tried for a week or so, those megagroups like LME. But they're way too busy for me, with groupchat all over the place. So I left them again and never missed them.

I'll tell ya when I miss them.  When I have a musician on my stage who's doing a good job and there aren't enough people in the audience to appreciate them.  That's when I get to spamming (the rest of the time, I leave it to my hosts).

Does it bring any folks?  It used to, it used bring a pretty good number.  Especially if the musician on my stage was new and I put a "you gotta hear them" in the spam.  These days, maybe it brings one or two, but I'd have a hard time being real sure of that.

Dunno if it's a sad thing. the groups having outlived their purpose. There's plenty of ways to get out there on the internetz, with the music. We've had people come to Born Again Pagans shows in SL because of Twitter.

And we've got uStream now as well, for the video. So it ain't about exposure anymore. It's about getting it. Now ain't that a bitch?

In the end, imho, it's about delivering the good stuff. Ain't no drama there - and groups are known for their drama.

All I've seen in the notices for a very long is 'news' from phony managers and venue owners who wouldn't know a rock tune if it bit 'em on the ass.  People know better than to look at them anymore.  Venue owners have no-one but themselves to blame as all that false hype had to have a consequence.  Surprisingly enough, listeners aren't that stupid.

Venue owners and promoters brought this on themselves.

Not me!!!!!

Problem is, I'm mostly stuck until we have a better tool.  Though if you consider how many of the 3k people in LME (and however many there are in IMG) are alts, musicians/venue owners who closed the IM as soon as they logged on (or have the Emerald client so they could just turn them off), have turned the blue box notices off or have just plain left SL, well it's still my responsibility to spam those other three guys . . .

I'll keep my spams appropriately short and sweet like I always have even if that does mean they vanish from the screen as soon as the next bio card gets copy/pasted in, usually half a second later.

Yesterday I saw a number of performers throw out their whole Events speal into IM.  So, it's not just owners and promoters.

So, where am I on "the better way?"  Ack!  Picking it up again.  I got sidetracked by prepping for my video of "Dance with me, M'Lady."

Sorry, Tishe.  My ADD got me for a while.

wow, why dont you tell us how you really feel about me, haha im sitting here laughing my ass off, to think that what you perceive as ego, and a small brain, was enough reason for you to become pretty much non existent in sl, since you arent posting in groups, or taking advantage of what the rest of us do. sadly, you stayed away long after i stopped giving tirade posts in those groups, but i understand its not your thing or whatever. If you rejoined, i havent noticed, due to all the other spams, notices and such going out. oh well, such is second life right?
wherever you are, whatever you are doing, best of luck to you, i never had a problem with you. i thought your shows that reviewed the artist live while they did a few songs, was brilliant, and enjoyed the one i did with you. i guess now i know why you never asked me back.

clue for future reference of anyone reading this post, people change, eventually.
