I have an object I'd like to put a script in so that when someone touches it, it releases a little trickle of particles. Hopefully it's doable so that if there were a number of them running at the same time it wouldn't cause a lot of extra lag? I know nothing about it!

Particles don't cause sim lag, they only cause lag on the client side (on individual people's computers and then, only if they have a low end video card). If it's not a humongous stream of particles, it's not going to be a problem. Look at the great gush of power that comes out of Anj Gustafson's tip jar or the particle show Nad or Torben put on.

By the way . . . what causes sim lag you might ask? Why is it so much worse now with 25 people than it used to be with 75?

Scripted clothing, jewelry and huds, that's why. Jewelry used to have either no scripts or a simple bling particle script. Now it has sizing scripts, color change scripts, menu driven scripts, everything BUT little bitty bling particle scripts. And everyone and his dog (oh my god, are THEY heavy scripted) has huds they forget they have on when they go to a show. Each hud puts out the average lag of one additional avie. That's if it's a well scripted hud. So if you (like me) have two huds (AO and radar) and a dance chim, before you ever get to jewelry scripts, you now equal the same sim lag that FOUR avies did two or three years ago.

Simple math, 4 avies today equals one avie three years ago, 25 avies today equals 100 avies three years ago. Think about it, do the math and take off anything you're not gonna need at the show.

Sorry Eva, this wasn't aimed at you, I've never noticed you putting out any kinda special lag. I just get this way after just about every show Crying or Very sad

Do talk to Nad, he's a good, lag free, particle scripter and your tip jar ain't gonna put out any special amount of lag.

So yeah.. we need a simple particle script for Eeevva (not Ehva). If you don't find one, IM me in-world. I don't' have one, but might know someone i can get one from.

Thanks for the tips! This project has actually gotten more complicated. I actually need to create a shape that I can't with regular prims. I got a sculptie demo and ran it and it made a apple shape but I don't have a CLUE how it did it or how to make a different shape and frankly, I don't have the time either. I should be able to make the shape I want with one prim. But then it needs an animation too and that's another whole ball of wax I know zip about. I found an item very close to what I'm looking for but it's no mod. I wrote to the creator to ask what he'd charge more for mod/copy version. That may be the easiest route if he will. All this for a silly giveaway item!
