Need Performers for MnSCU Virtual Minnesota State FairCalling all SL performers!
The RL Minnesota State Fair is a 12-day happening starting August 27th and goes through Labor Day (Sept. 7). And, the folks at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU, for short) have devoted a sim to have a virtual State Fair in. There are displays and rides and, of course, a stage (built by yours-truly).
And, to broaden the exposure, there will be a large screen display in the Education Building at the Fair (where all the campus booths are) where they will be displaying the shows to RL people in the area. So, what’s happening on the SL stage will extend out into RL, too.
We'd love to fill the stage with SL music talent. We are targeting show times of 8 am SLT to 4pm SLT. The RL booths close at 6pm Central. So, any shows we have after that will only be to an SL audience. But, that can be arranged, too. Not sure of the weekends schedule, yet, as far as evening closing.
They have agreed to have tip jars and cd/mp3 vendors on stage. Fees will need to be negotiated since funding is limited. But, during the day, you will be playing to both worlds (would be nice to have a tip jar in the Education Building, too, wouldn’t it).
So, if you are interested, please contact me, Ray Weyland. I will be creating a Google Calendar for the event to help everyone see what’s available.
Thanks!
OH .. NOTE: This will be a PG event .. because of the RL interface, don't you know.
(PS - I'm gone until Sunday night right now. So, if I don't get back to you right away, it's not because I'm not interested)
If you want a sneak preview of the stage, go to:

Played a show there today... was fun! I learned lots about Minnesota too. lol. Not sure if all the shows are like this all week, but Ray mentioned that somewhere at the RL fair there was a screen showing the show, and (i'm guessing) audio playing as well.
It was different knowing that there may be people listening who can't interact with you.... first time i've ever done a show like that.

Thanks Professor .. and all!
I now have the opposite problem ... I might need to add shows
I mentioned to Moody over the weekend that I had a bunch of slots to fill and she filled them for me! Thanks Moody!
So, I'll see if we need to add a 11am slot, or have a performer follow one of the other slots. But, then I may have hosting issues
I now have a DEEP RESPECT for owning a Venue .. it can be a full-time job!

It was a blast yesterday. The chancellor of the university stopped by the booth during my show. I made sure to sing something especially lewd while he was there.
(not - it was only slightly lewd)

Now you know why I am SO nutz about my two guys!!! I can disappear completely and they take care of everything. That's a rare treasure in SL music. And I have two.
I was really looking forward to your show this weekend, I'm glad Moody got you all sorted. Have a GREAT time okay?

I was there at Eva's show. And I just want to tell everyone that when the audience INSISTED she play an encore - she had HUGE trouble finding yet another PG song from her repertoire

Well, thank you everyone! BOTH Fairs were a big success. We did have our little challenges .. mostly on the last day. The RL Booth was overrun by zealous users who kept changing things, like undressing the AVs (how embarrasing) and at the SL Fair, someone deleted the stage right out from under Sound (teach me to LOCK things .. dang!). Fortunately, I went off to the side, rez a copy of the stage (only the lower part got deleted), slid the missing part under everything and slowly raised it into position. And Sound never missed a beat
Many thanks to the performers: Norris Shepherd, Fyrm Foroux, EvaMoon Ember, Lyn Carlberg, Shannon Oherlihy, Nonge Shipman, Hep Shepherd, Phemie Alcott, Moondoggirl moonintoog, KevinM Thomas, Obeloinkment Wrigglesworth, IrisKaye Siamendes, EricSteffensen Mistwalker, Bones Writer, Jean Munro, Winston Ackland, Djai Skjellerup, Kiaranne Flanagan, Nad Gough, Loren Andretti, and Soundcircel Flanagan. And, even I got a shot on stage.
HUGE thanks to Throughthesewalls Moody and hosts who jumped in a did a major part of the booking and hosting of shows.
And more HUGE thanks to Noria Tolsen who organized and hosted on both sides of the screen. And to Leda Carter, who became one of the best venue hosts I've seen in just a few days of on-job-training.
And thanks to everyone who came by and supported us and the performers. We had fun. I hope you did too.
Thank you to those who wanted to play but didn't get a chance. If we keep the stage open, I'll be coming around and checking with you.

I was at that show, Ray, and I thought you and Sound handled it very well indeed. Congratulations on putting up such a good fair - as I say, I caught quite a few of the shows and I agree that Leda was a great host.

Hey Ray,
You had to zip off to RL during my show so I didn't get a chance to say thanks face to face. It was great fun and exciting to know it was going out to RL. Everything went peachily and Leda was really spot on in looking after me too.

I was HUGELY remiss yesterday when I forgot to thank the Major sponsor of the event. So, HUGE, HUGE thanks to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and the Office of the Chancellor for making this even possible. And, we had dozens of staff and faculty manning the booth, fielding questions and giving demos (as well as trying to keep the kids off the machines ... who seemed more eager to jump in than their parents).
I know we gained a few converts to SL and SL music. Hopefully some towards the uses of SL with Education, too

I attended many of these gigs, at least once a day
what an AMAZING event this was, so professionally run, with a great interface from what we could here from SL to RL ... congratulations to everyone. I know this was SO MUCH work! Ray you and your staffers did a GREAT JOB

I was lucky enough to play a couple of shows, and managed to catch another 3 or 4 shows during the week.
Well done Ray. I really beleive that shows like this do a lot to further the 'SL music scene' (whatever that is).
It was the first time that I had ever played a show from my basement that a collection of peeps in RL could see/hear. Gave it kind of a different feeling/vibe, but was lots of fun.

Thank you Ray, it was a lot of fun! I couldn't get the Fairians waving corndawgs and cotton candy, but Leda kept things moving - she's great

Thanks guys.
But, before I take anymore thanks, it was really and truly Noria and Leda who made it all happen. Yah, I built the stage and knew a few performers and managers. And I helped with the training and setup.
But, you would not believe the agony Noria went through that first month getting this thing put together!
Not sure anyone of those involved are on this forum. But, just wanted to make sure they got the large share of the credit, too.
