New Griefer Tool?

Last night we were hit by a chat spam griefer.  Basically what happened is some very nasty language was poured into chat completely filling the screen.  It was not identified by a speaker's name, but my a series of numbers and I can't tell if it quit on it's own or if it quit because I turned off scripts (usually too late anyway)

We couldn't find any objects that caused it (I had build turned off) but it could have been an attachment.   Never did find the culprit, but I think they may have left quickly after triggering itf.

Was wondering if anyone else has come across this and if anyone knows what it is and how to find out who is doing it?

That happened at the Vibe last weekend also and only stopped when Luke turned off scripts.

Some folks really need to get a life...and you'd think that with two to choose from that wouldn't be so hard to do!!!  Guess we just have to pity them and remember to TURN SCRIPTS BACK ON after.  Else the griefer wins.

Edited to add, I'll bet those numbers at the front of the spam are either the Avie's UUID or the object (attachement) UUID.  Make a note of it in the abuse report.

The Mystitool has a feature that will identify talking objects, and from there you can get the offender's name, eject and ban in one fell swoop using the accompanying land tools.

If you don't have a Mystitool yet, I would *highly* recommend getting this HUD based SL swiss army knife; it's only about $400L and worth every cent.  It is feature rich, low lag and I can't imagine a day in SL without it.    If you need to know how to get one, just IM me in world or look up Mystical Cookie's profile.

/me applauds loudly

There's also a 1L version in her store, but the full version is well worth the expense.

I luuuuve my Mystitool! It's without a doubt the single most useful item in my overcrowded cupboards.

/me agrees with Sally....as usual!!!

Just stressing this lil point here.  I was at a venue the other day that had all options turned off.  I couldnt dance. I couldnt cheer.  No dance balls in sight.  My options were: stand there.  /yawn!!

Venues like that, I stay for one song outta respect for the musician (whom I went there to see/hear in the first place).  Then I poof.  So any musicians out there who may wonder why I sometimes poof out so fast, check the parcel perms before you book  Wink .

Thanks for the tip Grace - do you know if it works for poofers too?
When the offending object is rezzed - it's easy to cope with - stop scripts, see who owns the alien object, return and ban.
When it's an attachment that does my head in - the script doesn't show up in the debug menu of estate tools and turning off scripts on the parcel options doesn't always affect the attachment.
I even did a global turn off scripts affecting the whole sim which had no effect. And when I tried to use beacons to help me - I saw nothing - not realising that there was this new setting called Beacons Always On - which I never noticed before.
Finally the moron got bored and left - but not before I got a big bruise on my forehead from banging my head against the wall.
Several gnomes were ripped to shreds in battlegrounds afterwards but that's ok they were gnomes and therefore must die.
But I'll definitely have the Mystitool on for future performances.

Luke .. honestly the tool has so many features, I don't if there is a poofer detector, but I will ask Mysti and see what she recommends.

[makes a note about Luke's inherent gnome hatred]

I guess I must be doing something right that my shows are attracting griefers. Its no fun for them to attack an empty club! When its my own club, I always get hit in the middle of a song and can't do a thing about it. The couple of times we've had them come in, they usually got bored and left soon after showing their bums. When its somebody else's club they take care of it their own way. What I'd love is a tool I can give to my Harlee Johin to boot them with, but she is not the land owner so I don't know how she can do it.

Should I just arm her with a Chicken Cannon and teach her to aim that thing? Razz  Laughing  Razz

Von, the best thing to do is set your land to a group, then invite people that are going to help you to that group and give them authority to ban/eject in their group role.

Yeah, that's right, but I'm a scared to do it now. Last time I tried that very early on it returned all my objects. The land is set to group, but not owned by a group. Is that what you mean? If so, then I guess we've done that and I just need to adjust group authorities or something. If its owned by the group, I can't do that or my whole dang place will have to be re-done.

That happened to me at my Blue Haven club and to my biz partner, Loki at her Fool's Paradise pub (while Nad was actually performing....we're still teasing her about that one!! Laughing ).

This only happens if you deed the parcel to the group AND set it to group only build AND the objects on the parcel are not set to the appropriate group.  Best answer, don't ever set the parcel to group only build.  There are other ways to deal with object generating griefers (the usual reason for setting to group only build).  My method, use About Land to identify who has objects on the parcel who shouldn't, eject and ban them, then return all the objects to them, again via the About Land window.

When Kat and I first opened Coyote, we had several tenants in our mall area, and back then those tenants had mod rights within the group-owned property. I was playing a show there early on, and one of our tenants came over to check me out. She went to go tip me, accidentally selected one of the walls instead of my tip jar, and then got confused and hit the "take" selection of the pie menu.

The wall was linked to about 90% of the rest of the club. So there I was playing, and suddenly the whole place just... vanished. Abut 30 people found themselves dancing on the dirt under an open sky.

Glad I ain't the only one who did that. Yeah, Harlee gets their names and I ban them after the show, or during if its so bad I have to stop.
