Second Life Event PostingFor some reason the strangest things keep happening to me and I just can't figure it out. Was wondering if anyone else has run into a problem lately with Events.
I've been trying all night to get an event posted and it keeps telling me that the "Event Description is Invalid"
What the heck does that mean? I've tried copy/pasting, I've tried typing the whole thing out and I haven't got a clue why it won't take the event.
Anyone have any ideas? I've posted 3 other events tonight and have had not problems....rrrrrr

I've been getting bizarre event posting stupidity for over a week now too.
My problems have been that when I goto the page where it lists the rules for posting, and I click 'yes i agree' it takes me right back to the same page... so I click agree again, right back to the same page again... and I have to click agree like five times before it finally takes me to the page to submit my event.
And then at the submit event page, I fill out everything click submit, and then it takes me to a "page not found" over and over and over.
Here's what I've discovered:
1) use firefox, not internet explorer
2) dont use any odd characters. it's best to type it out, but if you do copy/paste it, make sure you delete abnormal characters such as the square from a copied LM, stars, ----- lines, alot of spaces, etc.
3) keep reediting and consolidating when you get an error. There's something in there that just wont go through, but the error message never tells you what that is. so just edit out something you think may be causing it.

DD, I think that having to constantly press the agree button has something to do with the certificates on the website. I was going thru that same scenario all last week. This week I get an "unknown certificate" alert when I do it, but at least I don't have to click a million times anymore.

The invalid description, I finally figured out after a very, very long time, is being caused by special characters in your description. I don't recall if it was quotation marks maybe?
It's to do with how databases read text. Remember, the listing isn't being stored on a notecard someplace, it's being stored in a cell in a database. Databases and SQL have trouble with some special characters (like , :, ", because it interprets them as text delimiters (deelies that separate one entry from the next). In other words, it thinks you're trying to put two entries into one database cell.

But remember that the stupid thing is ONLY going to give you five tries, then it's going to tell you you have to wait 24 hours to do any more edits/posts. Sometimes, I think it loses count and sometimes it doesn't. I have yet to figure out the common denominator there. There is one, it's a computer program, computer programs follow the same logic path over and over and over, I just haven't yet figured out what it is.
And when you get that 'Page cannot be found' message, just refresh. Don't try to make your entry again. That's one of the places where double, triple, quadruple, and quintuple (you can only do five, so you never get to sextuple) posts come from. The entry is made to the data base BEFORE that message appears.
Yes, Luke, before you ask, I will write up an FAQ for event listings also, don't use this thread though.

I discovered on this particular posting (after repeating the attempt after every little change) that the culprit was an apostrophe '
Instead of writing SL's I had to post it as SLs

Yeah, that's a character that would definitely make trouble. you /might/ be able to escape it out by using a backslash in front of it like:
"SL\'s" or possibly the html entity code.
