SL meet up, Aug 3rd, Oxford England! *cancelled*

Hello )

I'm helping organise a SL meet up in Oxford on Sunday Aug 3rd 2008!

SL musician and venue owner Bubbz Zenovka runs the entertainment in a pub in Oxford. And has very kindly put aside a night for a SL meet up!

I have already spoke to a few friends i have met from SL and  have them signed up to come.. Jaypee Platthy, musician and MC and myself will definatly be performing on the night. Also Cutemandy Hesse, Raven Skall and Fury Streeter will be there.

We are still very early in the planning stages of this.. but hope to have an open mic and booze up! I just wanted to make sure the date was confirmed so we could get some more of you signed up!

We plan also to stream into somewhere in SL too!

Musicians and listeners are very welcome, You dont have to play if you dont want, but we would sure love it!

Sign up below!

Way cool! Is there any way to display what going on in SL into the RL club?
Fyrm Fouroux

Fabs, I'm very interested in this. I might need to fix up overnight accommodation in Oxford, since it is a fair drive down from the North East. Maybe you could let me know inworld what sort of time slot I might expect if I played. I just don't know what you have in mind. 30 minutes would be a bit short for such a long drive, but 60 might bugger up your evening programme, if you see what I mean.
Fable Sinatra

Awww Zak im sorry Sad now you guys know how i feel not being able to get to your conventions! Dimi and Leira have thier big jam this weekend.. in Chicargo, i sooo wanted to go!

Hey Elvis ) I'm not sure.. i guess someone will have a pc running to stream to you guys.. so its possible!

Fyrm again im not sure.. it all depends on how many people sign up to come and play, im happy doing a 20 or 30 min set so others can have longer. Lets see who else signs up and then ill be able to tell you more Smile

Also its probable that Fury and i will need to find accomodation over night too.. so maybe we can get a discount for a group booking somewhere. Again it all depends on how many peeps we get signed up.
Silas Scarborough

hexx and I have been talking about an Amsterjam this summer.  I've been sampling ticket prices and I guess all summer is high season for Yankee turistas??  I've been working hard on making my kit portable but part of that means going broke on devices so ticket prices are of high interest!

I'm also toying with getting a laptop but those damn things evolve so fast that they go obsolete after 12.5 seconds of use.  Doesn't mean it'll stop working but it's frustrating to plunk down a bunch of lindens for a computer when you know that 12.5 seconds later you'll wish you got a different one.  That's relevant as it'd be part of the kit and could play into streaming.
Bubbs Zenovka

Hello...

yes this is my baby "Back 2 Reality" August 3rd 2008 - The Imperial, Oxford UK.

I am looking for ANYONE who would like to perform, although this event will be more of a SL meet and greet, i will be doing some promotional work outside SL in the local (oxford/Swindon) Music community habg outs.

The concert itself will be streamed into SL, at a number of Music Sims (details to be relased, once i know them) and I am also toying with the idea of broadcasting a Video Stream (No Sound) into SL as well, this is still to be discussed with whoever i discuss it with!

I have never organised a SL Music Concert in RL before, but i have succesfully promoted my own events in other genres of music (mostly dance) so i hope that this will be another good night!

August 3rd, gives me and those working on this (so that would be me...) plenty of time to get everything in place and work on the small kinks..

If you are even a little interested, send me a IM in SL and i will endeavor (nice word) to answer your queries!

Bubbs Zenovka

there is a quick website, which i hae just put together - i am hoping to find someone who can donate thier services for a little bit high-tec website.

http://back2reality.net

Tickets will be avaliable to purchase in advance from the website, but this will not be untill around beginning of July.
Fable Sinatra

I was talking to Rowanna last night from Pillowfish and she was pretty intersted.. looks like they have signed up too! as well as Avvy Barzane! How awesome!
Bubbs Zenovka

i have decided that this concert will also be a chairty function, i am still yet to decided on which charity, i will have a look around and let you know by the end of the week.

Elvis, et. al.,

I streamed a live performance into Max's White Orchid Club in January - the Dreamscapes Project, when they played live here at Jammin' Java in Vienna, Virginia.  We had one laptop set up to stream from, and two others were set up in a public area running SL with avatars representing the musicians playing.  I got quite a crowd from the club coming to watch the reactions of those in SL while I streamed the music.  It was great!

It was difficult for the live musicians to interact with both a RL crowd and SL at the same time, so we didn't really try.  The Dreamscapes Project vocalist did speak to the SL crowd several times, so they felt a big part of the event.  Since none of the band were actual SL people, I was the only connection between the two.  This event will be very different, since so many of you understand SL and how it works.

Yeah - there I am, getting one of my first tastes of night life in Virginia...just me and three laptops  Smile  How geeky is that?

I think this is a fabulous event, and would LOVE to attend...one of these days, Fabes, one of these days!

This was brought up in a discussion today and is something that i am going to look into, if it doesnt happen, i would at least like to get a image or looped video of the performers SL Alter-Ego, as they perform on stage.

I will keep you upto date with this side of it.

The event has now more or less got a full line up - well when i say full, to run from 6pm, i have a meeting with the Venue owner on thursday, so i will see what the closing time is (I anticipated 11pm) if there is a later finish time, this also means there could be a earlier start time!

I have decided as well, that tickets for the event will cost £5 (online) or £6.50 on the door, i dont think this is excessive for a cover charge and will then hopefully make a nice amount to give to the charity, which i will decided by the end of this week.

If anyone has any questions, please continue to post them here, or IM me in SL.

Hello again,

I have provisionally chosen a charity this morning, I am just awaiting thier response.
http://www.drakemusicproject.org/

Drake Music Project

"Drake Music provides opportunities for disabled musicians of all ages and abilities to explore, compose and perform music and brings together disabled and non-disabled artists. We do this through the innovative use of technology and by creating new ways of working and making music.

Our vision is a world where disabled musicians have the same opportunities to make music as their non-disabled counterparts, and a culture of integrated music-making where disabled and non-disabled musicians work together as equals."
DjaiSkjellerup

Please keep us up date with how the meeting goes and if you can accommodate other participants.

I had not said anything earlier (more fool me) because it is not straightforward for me to arrange some poor hapless fool to babysit my 4 kids of 5 and under lol. I had not anticipated you filling the lineup and doing the posters in only 3 days lol!

So sorry to be flaky..but I for one am keeping an eye on this thread with interest Smile
Bubbs Zenovka

I had not anticipated this interest either, i will post on the forum tommorow on how the meeting goes.

if this event goes well, there is nothing stopping me from organising them in other parts of the UK, maybe somewhere a little more central (and near my home in Leeds....)

I think the lineup has filled very fast indeed.. and i know how it is with having kids to find babysitters for too! If you interested Djai.. just IM Bubbs Zenovka in world .. im sure he can sort something like reserving you a place until you know more.

Also dont worry about the poster.. Bubbs is like a poster making machine.. the times he has come to me and said.. hey fabs i had this idea.. and after 10 mins hes handing me a texure of a poster Razz It looks like hes changing it daily anyway Smile

So.. we got lots of musicians.. now we just need listeners!
Bubbs Zenovka

Fable Sinatra wrote:

And people through the door on the night (hopefully walking in....)

Quote:

LOL - funny, but very true, i have the poster saved in Photoshop and i am indeed making changes to it all the time.

If anyone is interested in playing, IM me in SL and i will write your name down, otherwise i will forget!

Bubbs Zenovka

Another thing.

What are peoples opinion about my choice in Charity? i know a lot of people like to support Cancer, Kidneys charities normally, but i thought it would be nice to help a small charity that is Music based and i also feel that whatever amount of money is raised, they will actually use it - unlike some of the larger cahrities, where some money may be lost in admin fees..

please, let me know your opinion or even if you have an idea for a different charity.

lets get this one out of the way lol!
Bubbs Zenovka

okie dokie,

I am meeting Manager of The Imperial tommorow at 5pm, BUT i asked him over the phone about opening and closing times on a Sunday

"We can open has early as 11am and close as late as 2am"

ok, so...this means we can add more acts on to this already impressive play list.

If you are interested, please IM me in world.

I will leave the act list open untill Monday AM.

Hotel News

I was doing a quick search on the Travellogde Website, enquiring about Group Bookings and seem to get a good deal - however - at the moment the two Travellogde hotels either side of Oxford City Centre (around same distance to Venue) are currently offering a £29 saver room (paid for in advance and is non-refundable)

The two hotels are:

Oxford Wheatley - http://www.travelodge.co.uk/searc..._book/rooms_rates.php?hotel_id=61

Oxford Peartree -

If you do book a room, can you drop me a message to which hotel you are staying in Smile to help me with planning stuff and information.[/b]
Mambo

Ohh only 43 miles from me ,  so i have no excuse!

is the venue able to provide internet ,   projecting SL from a lap top shouldn't be to much of a problem if a large screen is available.  Streaming Video out to the www via ustream is quite straight forward ,    getting it into SL is possible.
See ya all there.
Bubbs Zenovka

The meeting was postponed untill Saturday noon.

but i did manage to ask a couple of questions on the phone.

There IS a Broadband Internet link in the club (So streaming in and out of SL  should not be a issue)

The Club Capacity: 300-350

Question: Ticket Price? i originally set the price at £5 with 4 acts, now with 8 acts would £7 be unreasonable? or should i keep it to £5 in advance (online) and £6.50 on the door?
Fable Sinatra

I think the one thing we are lacking atm is people through the door.. and with people having to travel and possibly stay overnight i think keeping the ticket price at £5 and £6.50 on the door would be better to keep the costs down Smile
Bubbs Zenovka

Okies.

Ticket price will remain at £5.00 in advance (online) and £6.50 on the door.

We have now confirmed seven acts and awaiting reply from two more, a vendor of some sort will be passed around on monday, with a "Information Coming Soon" style poster, so we can start hyping up the event,

A Mailing list has also been added to the website, as well as the Ticket sales (which is not currently on sale). please plug the Mailing list, if you can - so i can send emails to the interested parties, when i finally start selling the tickets.

The website can still be found at http://back2reality.net

And now i must sleep!

Thank you all, for your continued support!

feel free to save, upload and publicise!

Venue Visit

i finally got down to the venue today, picture of the outside here:

Ok, i know it doesnt look like the Albert Hall....

The club itself is under a "Re-Branding" period and is due to be re-opened this Thursday as "Imperial Royale Club"

Inside the club, it looks like a TV Make-Over documentry, so i decided not to take any photo's - i will however be down there on friday night, when the work is completed for a better look.

The club layout itself, take a pretty intimate setting - which i am pretty happy about, i was expecting a wide open space with pillars plotted around.

here is a "rough" layout whichi i did in photoshop, as you can see - my posters are better then my Photoshop CAD skills.....

Pretty much straight forward, all the seating area's (Artists area and VIP Area) are up a couple of steps, the acts will be set up towards the left of the stage, a Video Camera can be situated on the High DJ Booth, and can be linked to various TV Screens around the club. The VIP Area will be reserved for Drake Music Project members and maybe a few local press.

Outside the main room, there is a few sofa's plotted around to chill on and the club generally doesn't have a "smokers" area - otehr then outside to the right of the main entrance lobby. there will also be a cloakroom in the entrance lobby, as well as the male/female toilets.

So it looks pretty good, Back 2 Reality can keep the door money made from tickets, which i am happy about as it means more can be donated to Drake Music.

Tickets
on the website http://back2reality.net tickets can now be reserved for the price of 10p (will be refunded from the cost of the ticket) and will probably go on general sale beginning of July.

Act Line Up
Just awaiting confirmation from two acts, once they give the yes or no, i will release the poster to the SL Public and start the PR Machine Rolling!

Any Questions, Speak to me here, SL or via email Smile

Thanks

Yeah, I'd love to see about RLers seeing SL on a large screen.
Webcamming live RL feed into SL is kind of pointless... unless it works.
Bubbs Zenovka

the venue has a few big screen TV's (well widescreen flatscreens) plotted around the club, if we cant get a feed, i was thinking of running a looped video of the current singer's SL Avatar

Woohoo, This will be such fun!

I'll be heading down  for this with camera crew  to film it all for MetajamsTV  and hopefully get a few RL interviews with the musicians

Hey Bubbs,

I am on lunch at work and bored so I just thought I'd do a brain dump here on a few things that are buzzing round my head on this. These are just general questions and thoughts on how this will work that I think will be useful to all participants.

Also I am using this thread as an open forum to get these issues aired where all participants can see them...however there may be alot of folks who dont want to read this guff so if you would prefer to have this discussed elsewhere just let me know..I shant be offended.

I am not raising these points now because I think folks need to know it immediately and so please dont feel any pressure..after all there is a bit of time to go yet....but really I am saying it cos it's best to get this stuff written down before I forget it Smile

1) Does the club have a PA or do we need to bring amplification of our own?
2) If there is a PA then will there be an engineer on the desk making sure sound levels are OK? If there is no PA then each act will want to do a soundcheck earlier in the day so that they can get their levels right themselves. Of course acoustics between an empty club and a full (we hope) club are very different but as we are all musos I shant teach grandma to suck eggs on this. Suffice to say with a significant number of acts a significant amount of time would be needed for soundchecking ideally earlier in the day. Doing it on the night is also possible if you are prepared to put up with extended swap overs..it just depends how you want it to be...I am open minded on this..lets see what the consensus is. Another possiblilty is that we are all performing acoustically in barefoot and hula skirts Smile
3) What are the dimensions of the stage? This will also have an affect on swap over of acts as we dont know if the stage is big enough to leave all our equipment already set up, whether we need to slide things to the back of the stage or whether we will need to shuffle things on and off the stage altogether.

Of course none of this will matter if you have a method of rezzing stuff in real life Smile
Bubbs Zenovka

The club will have a PA system, but i will check out specifications later this month

The venue will be opening the doors for the gig from 5pm, i However will be at the venue from 11am(ish) to run soundchecks with whatever acts would like one. and as much that i would like to wear a Hula Skirt, i dnt actually own one....

The stage will be built onto the dancefloor area, which is big enough for what we need, exact dimensions is something i will find out. however if things do need to be shuffled on and off, i have allowed for 10-20 mins in the Performance timings for set ups.

hope this answer your questions at the moment Smile

I just finally got hold of Drake Music (they are in the middle of re-locating)

They are very happy to be the associated charity for this event and are sending me some leaflets and info about the chairty, as well as a decent logo for me to use.

we should also have a couple of reps from the chairty itself on the night

B2R planning group meeting

Hi Everyone working on the B2R RL Event in Oxford.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's working on both SL and RL ends of this good time.  Smile

Planning Meeting: Tomorrow (Monday, June 9, 21:00 GMT)  Is this good for anyone else?

Since I'm the intel pac SAT nav plan-bot.....I would like a meeting with everyone who's holding the aforementioned info.  This can be skype OR voice in SL.  (if I can get SL to stop crashing every 4 mns...)

IF you are on a MAC and have SKYPE crashing problems on launch (Bubbs mentioned this) Its a system based problem. You could be having a conflict with your audio file extentions and skype.   Try disabling all extras until you find the culprit.  (usually audio file types like .ape)

If you are on Vista (like me) its usually some stack heap overflow load issue....because skype always seems to use effloads of CPU.  I have solved this by never installing Skype Beta's......no idea why that works.  OK!  Let me know.

A wireless router is, shall we say, much less than optimal for this sorta thing.    There are bound to be stream issues if you go wireless.  Past that, I don't know much.

Two different points on the same physical stream.  The router controls access to the ISDN line and stream data goes out on that line.  ISDN is a digital network and that can mean anything down to running the network over copper phone lines but extends out to broadband.  You need more information from the owner on the capacity of this ISDN line in terms of upload/download speed.
Bubbs Zenovka

ok, will ask - but i do know that a local FM Radio broadcast every saturday night from the club live for two hours, so in theory - there shouldnt be a problem right?

Act 1 - Avvy Barzane

Act 2 - Mike00

Act 3 - Fyrm

Act 4 - Pillowfish

Act 5 - Barakdemi*

Act 6 - Fable*

Act 7 - Djai*

Act 8 - JP**

Finale - See Below***

Notes: *Baraka, Fable and Djai are planning to sing together at some point, so putting them in sequence is easier.

**JP Performs Hip Hop beats, so to put him anywhere else on the list, would bring continuaty problems (going from hip hop beats to acoustic)

***Djai has written a song, which we think could be performed by all the performers of the event (more to come on this soon)

Hey Bubbs,   I know im on the preshow for SL, but is my preshow music going to be pumped into the RL venue? or am I SL only because RL will need to do soundchecks and such?

What I'm thinkin, as to not make what I'm doin a hassle is, the main RL soundsystem is soundchecking, meanwhile I'm DJ the preshow in SL,  you can put SL and my stream on low volume on the TV speakers, but not the main house sound
Bubbs Zenovka

Soundchecks should have been completed by the time doors open i am hoping, which means you should be playing the last hour of your set to the RL venue
Doubledown Tandino

cooolio.

Also,   linked and synced with ya in Facebook.

I think facebook will be a great source for getting the word out to the people who live in that area.
Bubbs Zenovka

yes, i agree - Facebook can be useful for spreading the word!

please feel free to add me as a friend, if anyone use SL (dont forget to put in comments, who you are in SL!)
Doubledown Tandino

Also, do a facebook search for the zipcode (or whatever the UK translation is)
you'll see a bunch of facebook groups that show up in the search that are in the neighborhood.
Bubbs Zenovka

yes, i have already joined the local "Nightlife/Events" Group and the code is OX1
Bubbs Zenovka

Ok,

just to re-iterate.

there will be a meeting on Weds at 2100 UK Time (my head hurts to work out the SLT, will do it later)

probably hold it at my pad, my partner will provide the drinks and food...

Smile
DjaiSkjellerup

I'll be there....thats 1pm slt
Bubbs Zenovka

thanks for that Djai.

Also, i now have the Back 2 Reality Info Booths, ready to pass out.

each one has a poster on the front of it, and will give out on touch 1) Notecard, with Tshirt, Poster and a Information Booth inside it 2) a URL to the main B2R Website.

Like i mentioned in another topic, i will be selling tickets online via Paypal (on B2R Website) and now via SL Lindens, by using a group (Back 2 Reality - Real Life Concerts) that people buy to join, by joining the group (L$2500) they get a ticket to the RL Event.

will discuss more at the meeting tommorow

Early Info Gathering

First off,  Thanks to Bubbs for an event that’s already coming together SO nicely!

Don’t Flip your Wig! I’ve done scads of event management in my RL and I’m anal.    All this is simply the preliminary info gathering for the event and talking points for the first info meeting tomorrow night.

Just for clarity’s sake, this is all in regards to the gig in Oxford so I need your information – not avatar names etc…

Some of this is for me and some is for Bubbs and some is for the Club.  Some of it won’t pertain to you (please blissfully ignore).  For those who tend toward the obtuse:  “Band” means anyone playing at the event.     But I would like information about everyone who's coming!  I want to have a good idea of numbers (for Bubbs and the Club and Hotel info etc.)

If you would please get your bits back to me by the end of the week.  You can email it (elfay@coffeeandpajamas.com) notecard in SL or send it to me in a file on skype (xxelfayxx)

I’ll be working on the transportation and accommodation bumpf later on in the week.  I’ll be sending Google Earth KMZ markers for both.  (So please DL it if you don’t have it.)

Merci!

Part 1 the booking stage ............ and if you've never been to a meet up of online folks before....

Please Introduce Yourselves!– it can be hard for some people to meet up in RL - but it is lovely, warm and very fun (in my experience).  Please relax and enjoy!

Fable Sinatra

Did you decide to make a cover charge in sl now? £2500l?? was reading the other thread...
Or is that to buy a real ticket for actually going to Oxford? Could you make that alittle clearer? fanks x
Bubbs Zenovka

L$2500 is the price to join the group for a REAL Ticket - i will clarify that on the other thread

this gives people three options - PayPal, Lindens or on the night itself

From the group charter:

Back2 Reality is going to be a Charity Music Performance held at The Imperial-Royale, Oxford, UK - August 3rd 2008

Featuring Live Music from eight of SecondLife's Premium UK and European Acts

Money will be raised from Ticket sales and donated to Drake Music Project

You can buy a ticket for the REAL EVENT (in Oxford) by joining this group.

Please only buy a ticket, if you intend to come along.
Doubledown Tandino

Well, I didn't make the meeting.   Did anyone save the text chat from the discussion?
Bubbs Zenovka

there wasnt much of a meeting, more of a general chat between me and Elfay. and then later me and Slim.

I will plan one with the artists at some point in the near future, so that i can disuss equipment requirements, minimum stage space needed and blue M&M's
Bubbs Zenovka

thanks to Fable, who spotted a unknown area on the SL Forum dedicated to RL Meet Ups!
Fable Sinatra

Smile yw.. but shhh dont tell everyone about the bowl of blue M&Ms.. else everyone will be demanding them in thier ''special requirements'' Wink
Doubledown Tandino

I'm just hoping I get to be the one that hits page ten with the words

BLUE M&M

nope, still page 9.

---
Ok, Bubbs,     set up a date again,   around the 10am-12pm slt range seems to be when most everyone can log on.
Bubbs Zenovka

Blue M&M's

Sure, i will do that - probably nearer end of June, once i am back from my 5 days in Wolverhampton (without SL.....damn)
Bubbs Zenovka

I was speking with Haven earlier and we were discussing a few things and raising the profile of B2R came in somewhere.

would a host of "Back 2 Reality" concerts in July work? basically two of the 8 acts will play every week ( a different 2).

Would this work or not? i am openminded to any opinion?

Thanks

Bubbs
DjaiSkjellerup

Tis alright by me..I think it could be helpful as it would give us acts the chance to reach people who have not heard of us but have heard of back2reality...so that people who come to the gig in RL get an oppportunity to catch all the acts first so they know what they are getting

I have been priming the pump by mentioning it at all my recent shows..I am getting some interest and we'll see if that interest becomes ticket sales.
Fyrm Fouroux

I would want to be reassured that the venue was OK in terms of experience of hosting live music gigs and, secondly that they had a reliable stream that we, as performers, could borrow for the gig. I assume that all the performances would be for one hour shows.
Doubledown Tandino

Just wanted to plop down some curiousities since ive been incommunicato.  Bubbs, perhaps you can answer these questions in your own time on the event info thread.

Whats the scoop/progress on Drake?  I remember you saying all a go, plus one of their dudes is close enough to the venue to show up.  Whats the status on the text info, or info for the b2r site about the org.  It's just a good thing to have available and finalized early.

What are the exact final ways that are now set up so people can buy advanced RL tix?  what specifically do they receive?

Is there a place you can add to the website where people can post messages to connect for carpooling?

The venue will probably be Havens, which is fairly experianced at hosting Live Music gigs and also is one of the Official B2R Venues

They have been re-locating this week, i am heading away for 5 days from tommorow, but i will take thier phone number with me and give them a call - i expect to see news abotu B2R on the drake website soon.

Ok the final and only way to buy a ticket in advance is via the "buy tickets" link on the B2R website using paypal, a paypal account is not required as you can pay using a credit/debit card on paypal itself. just use the checkout feature on the site - it is tested and it works.

In terms to what a "ticket" holder recieved, this event - it will probably be nothing, to keep costs down for the initial event. at a push, maybe a wristband. if this event goes well, future events will have physical tickets. but for now, thier name and ticket reference number will be at the main door, they just tell the guy thier name and refence number, and get a tick.

If you think this is a good idea, i can add a forum to the website when i get back on friday

Hope this answers your questions.

regarding bubbs replies above:

thanks bubbs.   good call on the carpool safety guide.   I do believe there is a free code for a website regarding safe carpooling... it involves people adding their "carpool" , max capacity, then people join into the carpool or create their own.     so.... that way we all have a list of trustworthy carpools.

in regards to selling RL admission in SL... I suggest it.  dunno how...  but i think there really needs to be a way to spend lindens for the ticket.  even if it's manual?  can they just pay your AV directly, and you add em to the list?
Bubbs Zenovka

well everyone apart from you Smile

Ok, I would like to put a advert on some SL Radio streams, isit possible for those acts that are on the forum to record me a quick line, along the style of

"Hi this is [NAME] and you can see me live/i am performing at Back 2 Reality. Back 2 Reality is going to be a Charity concert held in Real Life at The Imperial Royale, Oxford. Raising Money for Drake Music Project. Further Information at Back2Reality.net. Hope You Can Make It."

I know its a mouthful, but i will cut it up, so everyone is saying a part of it :

EDIT: oh yeah, can you email me it pls - carl.kendrick@gmail.com
