some specific questions about streaming

1.  If I want to hook up to a venue's stream, how would you instruct me to do that ?

2.  If I want to use my own stream in a venue, how do I hook that up ?   And if I just go to a venue late at night which is empty, can I use my stream there for others to hear or must it be somehow hooked up by the owner ?

3.  Can I use it to busk, my stream, that is ?

here's some answers:

1 - The venue must give you their URL and password in order to access their stream.  You plug those into your software.

2 - You give the URL (only) to the person at the venue who has rights to change the media setting for the parcel.  So, unless you have rights to the venues media settings, the answer to part B is "no. someone most likely needs to be there with the proper rights."

3 - follows on 2 above. Unless you have rights to change the parcel's media settings, it ain't gonna work.

BUT, a followup on 3 .. using your stream is not what people are talkig about here when they talk about Busking.  They are talking about using Voice.  Anyone can use voice in a Voice activated parcel.  But, that's been covered in detail in other parts of this forum.. seach on "voice."

wait, one more question, is there anywhere on SL where I could go where I could use my stream freely for others to hear without owning a venue ?

And, there are ways that a land-owner can make the media settings be made by anyone else.  It's a Land Media box with a script in it to read a certain chat channel, then set the URL for that parcel.

We had one for the Virtual MN State Fair. It only worked for group members.  But, that's easy to do.. just add you to the group.  Then, when you were on the parcel you'd type in something like "/44 http://123.45.67.89:1234" (but use the REAL URL there) and it would change the parcel.  Came in real handy.

I do that on some of my places to make it easy for me to change stations.  But, you need to be a group member or you can punch numbers till your fingers come off.

Check with Drift Monde (or Zak Zamin) who owns the Lily Pad Lounge. It was one of the first venues in sl, and is now only used a couple of times a month.  Once she sets you up, the venue is totally automated for you to manage the parcel stream, tip jar, etc.

You can have your own nicely done venue for shows whenever you want, so long as there are no other performers scheduled.

thanks folks!
