The SL Shakespeare CompanyFor this opportunity please contact Ina Centaur in world and/or visit the SL Shakespeare Company at

------------------------------------>
An opportunity has recently come to my attention in which I think two artistic areas of SL would be able to form a mutually benefitial partnership.
While exploring outside of the live music scene I discovered the SL Shakespeare Company and I was amazed at the scope of their achievements to date in addition to their plans for the future. Having already performed 5 of the bard's plays they have pushed every boundary there is in SL; not only technical benchmarks have been set but their track record for co-operation and teamwork towards a shared goal is unsurpassed in SL in my opinion. Their recreation of The Globe theatre is stunning and they are fast building an array of supporting ventures to see their plan for an ongoing prescence in SL realised. They have already touched so many people who would otherwise not have access to Shakespearian productions in RL and I for one admire their achievements greatly.
Unfortunately, despite their efforts the costs associated with the 4 island sims required to stage productions of this nature have drained their resources to the point that the future is looking bleak for them to continue. The SLSC have now instigated a campaign (the SOS campaign - Save Our Sims) to raise the funds required to pay their tier fees into
next year and continue to stage the best productions they can. While 4 sims may appear excessive I have visted the site and in order to stage these productions with a decent size audience in an environment that is as free from lag as possible I can see that this is the optimum way to proceed. They had an audience of 300 when they staged Hamlet. Just
imagine how that must have looked. A sumptuous production staged by a group of willing volunteer actors and support staff witnessed by an unprecedently large audience. Surely this level of achievement in SL is what we all aspire to!
So how can the SL music scene help? I am acutely aware that all musicians are constantly being asked to play shows for benefits, most of which we do with good heart because we
believe in the cause. It is usually medically related or of social importance in RL and issues of the arts such as this may seem pale in comparison. In no way am I seeking to compete against these worthy causes and consequently I am not appealing for musicians to give up their time for free! Instead I would simply like to bring to your attention an offer from the SLSC for you to start using the Globe Theatre to host your shows.
Here is a quick summary of the benefits to you to play shows at the Globe....
- A quad sim venue capable of hosting a 300 plus audience with ease
- A 3000 listener stream free for you use
- You are free to rez your stage components
- You are free to put out your own tip jar
- Your gig will be placed in events and will be advertised to the SLSC group (it's a big group)
Here is a quick summary of the benefits to the SLSC in hosting your shows
- You bring your fans to the Globe who are hopefully impressed with the setup there and join the SLSC group and/or donate to the SLSC SOS (Save Our Sims) campaign kiosks
- The more people who realise what is being done with the SLSC the more likely it is they might be able to reach that one influential backer who could really make a huge difference by helping the SLSC to secure RL sponsorship
The only things the SLSC cannot provide are a fee for your performance and gig support staff for your show but everything else is available for you to have a great show at The Globe Theatre.
You may be aware that I already have some projects on the go but at the risk of looking like "Johnny Campaign" I really wanted to bring this to your attention and to see if there are enough of you out there that see the merit in what I am proposing that you can take it on yourselves as I cannot be a liason beyond what I have already done. Please do not let my simple appeal detract from what the SLSC have already done to help themselves. They have already explored many sponsorship and support avenues and they will continue to do so but for the moment those opportunities have not come together. I will be booking a show there imminently and I would like to ask here that all bookers, managers, gig helpers, musicians, DJs and everyone else who is either an artist or responsible for booking an artist to in the first part post your support in this thread and for the second part please contact Ina Centaur of the SL Shakespeare Company with a view to arranging a show there ASAP.
This is an opportunity for the SL music scene to branch out once again and to make friends outside our usual circles. Together we can ensure that even in a small way...all the world is a stage!

Shakespeare, Second Life: Though hinted at on more than one occasion,
Ina Centaur yesterday officially announced the SL Shakespeare
Company’s SOS “Save Our Sims” Fundraising Campaign—its purpose,
according to Centaur, is to meet “a modest though desperately needed
sum to pay land tier fees to Linden Lab.” Through funding from
microeconomics a la a grid-wide network of donation kiosks, the “SOS”
campaign goal is to meet L$1.5 million by January 21, 2009, which at
the current LindeX rate for selling would translate to about USD$5300,
meeting six month’s tier for three of the island sims that host the SL
Globe Theatre venue and similarly daring literary and artistic
projects. Centaur plans to fund the fourth sim through her own
endeavors, to keep the SL Globe Theatre four sims in size, as well as
to continue existing endeavors on the sims in trying to make the
enterprise self-sufficient.
At high noon on November 21st, Ina Centaur, Artistic Director of the
SL Shakespeare Company, greeted a small crowd of fans and supporters
at the SL Globe Theatre before launching a speech that revealed the
funding state of the Company, as well as some unexpected humanitarian
results of their endeavors. The Company’s performances have reached
both those in rural areas and also low-income urban districts,
introducing many to the culture of theatre and Shakespearean
performances. Centaur summarized with the words, “Perhaps the greatest
thing that has evolved from our endeavors is that it has become a
truly humanitarian cause that we are fighting for—to bring theatre to
the farthest reaches of the world, to give Shakespeare to those who
would not have had the chance to experience his words in the live and
intimate form they were written for, to use this nascent medium to
bring the most quintessential culture to the metaverse and beyond.”
Various donation kiosks are available for those who wish to help the
SL Shakespeare Company in their campaign. Supporters may drop by the
SL Globe Theatre or the Campaign headquarters, directly to obtain
copies of kiosks. The Campaign website contains up-to-the-second stats
and other information, as well as links to the inworld Campaign
headquarter to obtain kiosks http://campaign.SLshakespeare.com
Centaur explained that a 4-sim venue is a necessity for their shows,
“To make sure all can attend, and to minimize the lag.” In addition,
the sims listed on the main SOS banners—sLiterary, Shakespeare, and
Primtings—also support several other notable literary and artistic
projects. Centaur stated the best way to find out about each is to
spend some time exploring the sims, or to visit their campaign website
above for brief summaries.
Although many may consider Centaur’s activites to be merely great art,
after mentioning a few examples of lives their endeavors have touched,
she summarized their goal as of a greater significance, “Our goal is
to create good within Second Life for the world to thrive from—because
it is possible. We have been doing it, and we want to continue doing
it, but we won’t be able to if we become homeless—we would have
neither the energy or the base to go from.”
Centaur concluded the session with the haunting words, “You are our
last hope. If you can’t help us, then I’m afraid to say we are truly
lost.”

I am very pleased to say that Throughthesewalls Moody has spoken with Ina Centaur of the SL Shakespeare Company and arrangements are being made for Moody to co-ordinate a series of shows at the Globe Theatre. If anyone wants to get a gig there it is now possible for you to contact Moody.
Thanks for taking this on Moody I am very grateful. I truly believe these two worlds can only benefit for being exposed to each other!
