But the router can't change the performance of any up/downstream server you happen to be going through when your stream takes a dump. There are just elements that aren't within any of our control.

What's a router? I just plug the ethernet into the side of the Mac. I must qualify as a dumb Mac guy.

Go Netgear. That much I understood.

btw going wired instead of wireless has helped.

Agreed but either it's hugely coincidental or the router's error checking or whatever isn't as good as Netgear since i originally had stream drops with Linksys, sometimes several times in a gig.  I never dropped once in six months with Netgear.  I dropped within two hours of switching to a new Linksys router.  Tonight with the D-Link, it never dropped.  From that I conclude the stream server is pretty reliable and the trouble is on my end, specifically in the Linksys router.

On the subject of speed, I was at Komuso's gig tonight and he said he was on fiber.  (Whatever Japan calls their implementation of FIOS)  I asked how fast and I believe he said 120 Mbits.  THis was right during his gigs so I wasn't going to throw a lot of geek questions at him.  I'm fairly sure that's what he said tho.

Yeah, that's definitely narrows down the issue. I'd think I'd have many more problems due to my shitty upstream speed, but not so much. I think the D-Link is pretty reliable in this regard.
