I have a comment/answer,.... but it might not be what you like.
I have the Alesis 8 channel firewire.
My first one I could NOT get the firewire unit to detect. After a ton of time and money (new firewire card, new firewire cable, hours troubleshooting, hours on tech support with Sweetwater, and Alesis, cost of shipping the unit back to them, etc...), ... they shipped me a replacement mixer.
The replacement mixer i can get to detect, but the firewire is buggy and works sometimes at best.
I threw in the towel, and ran the 'line out' on the mixer to my soundcard's 'line in'.... and that's how i use it.
... I know it might not be the answer you wanted.. but it's all i have for ya.
... oh yeah... are the Alesis drivers even compatible with Vista? (Mine is an XP machine) |

Thanks Norris.
I have the cables to run the line out/line in, if I need to, but was hoping I didn't have to do that.
Yes, the Alesis driver release from 3/17/08 is Visata compatible. And, it works great streaming (from what I can tell) as long as I don't try to install Cubase. Once I do the intall in Cubase, I am toast.
I suppose worst case, I can revert to my XP machine.
Thanks so much for the feedback. Really appreciate the help. |

Hi Jennifer!
I echo what my pal Norris says. I have the USB 1.0 version now, and I haven't even bothered trying to connect by USB. I connect the Main Mix Out jacks to the Line In on my soundcard. This setup works well, and I'm not sure of the benefits of connecting by USB, unless I upgraded to the USB 2.0 version to record multiple inputs on separate tracks in Cubase, which is something I haven't got the need to do...............yet!

If you're on the verge of making a move on a laptop, you might want to take seriously the rumorz / rumours that Apple is going to release a new version of the MacBook on October 14. _________________ Silas Scarborough

Thanks for the input you'all. Works fine with the line out/line in setup as recommended. The new driver was working great under XP -- Too bad the work around is needed for the Vista box.
Thanks again! |
