Hey cool, look - a very special set of forum boards just for SL Music! How did I not find this site before?
Anyway, I'm Gath Gothly in the game. And I wield 6 string or 12 string acoustics while singing nonsense into the microphone in hope that the two tunes compliment each other. Still fairly new at playing in SL, and have just recently picked up the guitar again after not playing for a long time.
I stick mainly to comedy stuff. Filk, originals, goofy songs... have a pretty good sampling of the kind of songs you would NEVER want your mother to hear... funny stuff, ya know?
When not playing goofy stuff, I might play some pop, country, folk, oldies, rock... whatever kinda floats my boat at the time.
So... ya... Typical acoustic guy, except I try very hard to make you "ROFL on the floor" (as the kids these days say).
I got a couple places that - for whatever reason - actually let me play on a regular basis. Might catch me there if you're interested. My stuff is usually listed on the events. And there's always my calendar, which is on my profile.
Anyway - I'm loving playing music in SL. It's a real blast.
My only big issue is being able to draw a crowd. Haven't figured out the trick to that yet
When not playing music in SL... I'm usually wandering around, annoying people, and saying/doing off-the-wall goofy things to playfully disrupt whatever event I happen to stumble into.
Also... I'm a hard-core Linux nerd. No Windows or Mac usage here, I use SL, stream out my guitar and everything with my Linux lappy. So anyone else that uses Linux and wants to talk tech or ask questions about how to get everything working right, feel free to chat me up.
If you want some face time, you could always donate an hour set to the clothing fair we are doing to benefit the Relay For Life of Second Life. IM me inworld for more details, but it might be worth looking into.

Love your intro ... and yah, getting crowds ... I usually have semi-private shows alot. Although, that 6am SLT on Saturday sure pulled some people in. They must have been bored ... Nah ... just kidding (you guys know that, right?) ... Some time-slots are just packed more than others. I had about 40 people pass though ... and about 18 stuck around. Many people just curious, a lot who can't hear me any other time.
Cool Harold - you can expect an IM from me. I am big on benefits/fund-raisers and like to help out any way I can. Actually did a motorcycle ride benefit for Relay for Life last year - a good cause. Be happy to donate an hour of my time
Ya, Ray... timeslots are certainly a big part of it. Most of the time I am on SL are during the peak hours. SLT 5p-10p. Get home from work and jump on SL for awhile - guess that's what everyone does :p
So there's a ton of things going on, and not many people want for something to do. I've played a couple of off-hour times and those usually have more "walk-ins" (TP-ins?)
Hey Gath. Nice to meet you.. i think... name rings a bell, and not sure if i've seen/heard you inworld or not yet. lol
Chaos Noyes is the only other Linux geek/musician that i've met or know in SL. I envy your ambition/knowledge .... i'm way too lazy to try and do something that very few people do! lol
I've seen you in-game Norris. Heard ya play. You sound really great.
Edward Lowell is also a Linux user, although he streams with Windows. I'm more of a Linux purist myself. It's my speciality in IT.
The only big bite I got right now is Voice in SL on linux. Lots of people have issues with it. Finally got around to working on it a bit last night, made some progress. I can hear voice sometimes (not all the time), but can't talk in voice yet. I'll have to work on it some more when I'm bored enough.
I may have to look Chaos up sometime so we can talk shop. Like to see what usb mixers he's had luck with and what his setup is like. I posted a quick FAQ on streaming on linux here on the forums earlier today.
UPDATE: Weeee.... Voice on Linux works! Haven't gotten it all tuned up right, but the newest Linux release candidate fired right up and started working right away. Lots of jitter and slams the CPU pretty hard. Ended up getting a lot of the jitter to go away by recording on one mixer and playback on another. I imagine I just got a lot of tweaking to do.
Anyway, progress. Yay. But running a RC version. Boo.
