Sorry, I have a tough time speaking layman.  I've been a professional computer nerd for a long time, and I've nearly forgotten how to speak english.

Allow me to retype my post, this time as a normal computer user...

The mobile card isn't as fast as regular wireless cards.  You won't be able to click on internets fast enough to download your guitar to people.  You should get an extra long internet extension cable.  If that's slow, you probably have a virus.  I got a virus once.  It made my windows slow.  I had to buy a new CPU.

Ouch... see, now that hurt MY head.  Very Happy
(Don't mind me, I'm a goofball)

hmm... i see cracks in your armor?  'Nerd'.. geez.. any self respecting computer person would probly call themselves a 'geek' rather than 'nerd' wouldn't they?

hmm.. are you trying to pull the wool over our eyes?  Wink  Hmmm.. actually i doubt you are.  You even had graphs.  Definite geek material!!

I suspect Gath knows the difference.. for others...roughly analagous to:   nerd=Steve Urkel,  geek=Bill Gates

My age is showing.

Nerd = Potsy Webber
Geek= bites heads off chickens
Computer = Hal

Me = very confused as I don't see the connections . . . .

/me rezzes a soap box

Now... I'm no authority on it, but here's how this nerd vs geek difference was explained to me once...

Nerd:  Someone who knows more about computers than you.
Geek: Someone who knows more about computers than you, but still has social skills

(Of course "computers" could be replaced with chess, D&D, comics, sci-fi, buffy, vampires, robots, world-of-warcraft, music, or even SL.  Whatever.)

Now personally, I disagree with the above classification, as I believe social skills are relative within different social circles.  Anything relative is rather difficult to generalize.
I feel the terms are fairly synonymous, though I'll agree that "geek" is the softer/gentler term.  No negative connotations associated, to me the terms simply mean someone with an advanced degree of knowledge on a specific skill set.

Anyway... Nerds rock.  Cool

/me picks up soap box, apologizes for the thread derailment.

I think Djai had a question about 2001 A Space Odyssey and chickens, but I'm not quite sure what the answer was, though it gave Bourque a headache for some reason . . . Gath, would you repost that, please?
