This sounds funny, but I'm having an awful time with hair.  Some "medium brown" hair that I originally put on will absolutely not come off - there is no option to take it off or detach it.  I put some longer, darker hair over it - but there's a constant bald spot on top of my head.

I have no idea how to fix this!  Help?

Carmel,
Go buy some hair.  It will most likely come with a "bald" texture that you wear, which kinda gives you a bald look, and should replace whatever is currently on your head.  After you wear the bald texture, then you can put on your new hair.  Having said that, adjusting your new hair to fit properly is generally a challenge for all newcomers, but it is possible, and gets easier with practice.

Everyone has their favorite hair store, and there are lots of good ones.  I suggest Tami McCoy (look her up in search). Her sim is called Dixie, I believe.  But there are lots to choose from.

Good Luck!

Analog Dog is good for hair too. Good hair is worth every linden.

My favorite hair shop is Goldie Locks.  You can find it by putting the name in the Classified section of the search window.  They do have freebie hair for newbies and discount hair.  The discount hair is very good, as good as the full price stuff, just they've had it up for sale longer.

And yes, they give a baldie with each hair.

Oh Man!  Don't talk about hair!

I bought nice hair .. but it was too much ... not price .. hair.  I need hair for a half bald guy, you see.

First .. I only bought hair that was COPY and MOD (OK .. most may be . but I was new at that too).

Then, I only worked with a COPY of the original.  4 times I did that.  3 times I deleted it.  Because I was moving, unlinking and deleting, moving more, stretching .. I even changed the base color. GAWD!  It was like an hours work .. and that was just the top.  Fortunately, the pony tail was easy.

It was definitely a bigger job than I was expecting.

I ended up buying hair from analog dog...it's huge.  But what's funny is that I picked the color closest to mine, and when I tried to reposition it, it flew off and now it floats around the room and I can't get it back to my head.

So I had to opt for another color!  lol

lol... I warned ya.  Positioning hair for newcomers can be frustrating.  But dont give up, it will become easier the more you do it.  Some of the clothes that have prim attachments are fun too. It's all part of the joy that is SL.

I dont know if you av is older than 30 days at this point, but Tami McCoy gives 1 free hair style of your choice to avatars younger than 30 days old.  It might be worth checking out.

Thanks - I did look into Tami MCoy - found her profile but could not navigate around the shops that said they carried her.  I'll keep working on it!

Folks, I may be mistaken but I believe there's a bald head that comes standard in the Library inventory of every account.

As far as accidentally moving your hair and having it land in the sky, usually a command of Ctrl+Z while in edit mode will undo what you have done.

Good luck!
