I have 3 *lol*

I used to have lots of more,
never could find the right one for me.

I used to have fenders, gibsons, couple of Gretsch, first one i ever got was an Aria.

on day i looked around and saw these guitars hanging there and realised that i didnt liked them at all.

So i looked around, and because i am a huge Vai freak, first stop was the ibanez shop.

Picked up the one i have now, started playing and it felt good.
Never touched another one since then ( talking bout 15 years ago or so )

What is it about the Ibanez that sets it apart from the others for you?

I don't own any guitars right now.  Crying or Very sad

Since my car wreck in 2002, it's been almost impossible for me to play -- it messed up my left wrist and hand a bit so that it's difficult for me to fret. However, I do plan to get another axe sometime soon -- an acoustic -- and woodshed until I get my chops up again. Until then, I'm primarily a keyboard player.

However, I too have a long list (not as long as some of you, though!) of instruments I've had in the past. Let's see... (insert wavy dream effect here)

First halfway decent instrument I had was a Kay copy of a sunburst Stratocaster, maple fingerboard, white pickguard. A not-very-good copy of a late '50s Strat.

Next up was a copy of a '58 Explorer in faux Korina wood.

At this point I also had a 1963 Fender Bandmaster amp.

I fell in love with Les Pauls around this time, and since I was a poor college kid, I picked up a couple of the Hondo II copies of the LP Custom, a white one and a tobaccoburst. I removed the pickup covers and painted the pickup rings white on the t-burst.

Later I got hold of an old British Burns 12-string that looked like a green and black Strat. Hard to play, but a nice sound.

Through most of the early 80s my primary instrument was a Hagstrom Swede, which looked kind of like a Les Paul in solid mahogany. That was one heavy guitar!

Let's see... since then I've had a black Cort that looked like a Super Strat,  a burgundy SG copy, a Ventura 12-string acoustic, a Jasmine cutaway acoustic which my daughter now has, a black on black Tele copy by Hohner which was actually a very nice guitar, and a Peavey Strat copy.

I think that's it; I'm doing this from memory. Laughing

The ability to carry it like a briefcase? Laughing

So it could double as a case for assault weapons.  Ok, that's one!  lol

I really am curious tho.  I've never even strummed an Ibanez so I don't know at all.

Sorry to hear about the crack-up.  I've whined about my orthopod stuff way too much already but I do know the pain and sympathize greatly.

Well I am new at this so my collecting is just beginning.  First guitar I got was just something to learn on.  A Fender DG-8S cheapo acoustic.

But, I got me a new one.  It is an Ibanez electric-acoustic.  Exotic Wood Series - quilted mahogany  - mini style body - way more comfortable for me - I'm in love!http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/i...243b1-6bb0-4bd9-b396-28b46ff78c61

The reason i love the ibanez is :

* the whammy, it can be used as a normal one, but you can also increase the pressure on the strings ( notes go up in stead of down )
if you train, you can actually play melodies with whammy only.
At the time i bought this guitar it was the only one that had this ( including the lock on the strings so it doesnt detune ) in the netherlands.

* the monkey grip,
it looks cool offcourse, you can carry your guitar around as a bag *lol*
but it has a function, the resonating of the tone is different because wood is missing, it gives a tone a more singing attitude.

* the overall state is that it is a quality guitar, design-hardware-electronics all matched to eachother.
no suprise offcourse, Vai designed it and tolled Ibanez what he wants.
you can like his thing or not, but the guy knows guitars....
