I've been puttering/learning with my new gear for the last 5 hours (Line6 TonePort, M-audio Axiom, cheap electric guitar, Alesis mixer, and speakers)
After trying for the last two and a half hours to do something with Cubase, and no success, even after internet searches, forums blah blah. ASIO drivers, MIDI, synching, TonePort drivers, blah blah blah...
(for those who want to know.. it is something pretty simple.. able to detect the two different stereo outputs from my TonePort, and record them seperately. To record my acoustic guitar with the pickup and with a mic at the same time, on two seperate tracks) Don't think Cubase can do it.
Installed Reaper, and was able to do it within 15 minutes.
/me puts the manual for Cubase on the shelf, and starts to print out the Reaper manual.
... kind of a rant too... no one within 100 miles of me I can talk to about this stuff.
.. but also knowledge... pass the word on to anyone who is frustrated with Cubase. |

Cubase should do what you want Norris. It should be more or less the same conceptual process as Reaper, just a little, ah....more non-intuitive:(
Add track, select input, arm, check levels, record.
Or maybe not, could be something else. Sounds like you got it covered and I've done that damn cubase web/forums/help dance without result myself sometimes...so frakking frustrating!
I dumped Cubase for my Live setup about a year ago and moved to Reaper. I still use Cubase for some things though, mainly midi related. Reaper is gaining fast in this area quickly however. _________________ Blog: http://sonicviz.com/wordpress/

Yeah, i agree. It should.. but i couldn't get it to. I basically needed it to have 4 in's on the channel so I could choose 1+2 for one track and 3+4 for the second track (both stereo).
I could only get the option of 2 inputs in Cubase, regardless of how many different ways i configured everything. Maybe i was just able to find it quicker in Cubase. Dunno.
Hopefully soon I'll be spending more time creating/working with the tools, than learning/trying to configure the tools. |

Nahh.. thought of that. In cubase, if I set the track to stereo, it takes input 1+2.
In cubase, if i set one track to record '1' and the other to '2'... i get two mono tracks of the same thing. (my guitar's pickup, for example)
In Reaper I was able to set one track to record inputs 1+2 (my guitar pickup) and the other track to record 3+4 (the mic in-front of my guitar). For two stereo tracks.
For some reason i could NOT get Cubase to find inputs 3 and 4... (and just as background, for a farmer, I'm REALLY good with computers...not to say that it might not have been something obvious.. i just couldn't find it...after a LOT of messin' around). |

Oh yeah.. I didn't think of this. But the version of cubase i use is Cubase LE.
Might actual be a limit of the entry level software... just thought of that...
..So nice to have other people around to jar your brain a bit at times. |

I use Cubase LE, though I used also have the old VST 32 version.
Did you try this:
Menu/Devices/VST Multitrack - make sure you have your device ASIO driver selected
F5 or Devices/VST Inputs you need to hit the activate button [blue for on in WinDo$e] and then the inputs will show up under the track drop down section in the IN dropdown. This is probably why 3 and 4 are not showing up.
F4 or Devices/VST Outputs do same procedure with the power button next to the name and the outputs activated will then show up under the OUT dropdown.
Selecting stereo or mono, which sits under the R button [it goes X S R W] will toggle between stereo and mono inputs.
But stick with reaper anyway! The fact you got it working in 15 minutes speaks volumes for more intuitive working style! _________________ Blog: http://sonicviz.com/wordpress/

Make no mistake, Reaper is far more advanced that Cubase LE, so if that is the choice, then go with Reaper. If you were comparing more apples to apples, that is Cubase 4, their latest release, to Reaper, Cubase wins hands down in features, content, etc.
That said, Reaper appears to be a fine DAW, and you can't beat the price. |

Damn, S*&@, *&c*, *@%Y$#*&@#&%&*#@&#**#.
yes.. F5 did it. I had to check out of curiosity...
I had even looked there, but didn't see the 'down' arrow... and wouldn't have thought that i had to turn them 'on'.
Works good now though.
I think I'll finish up this little project in Cubase (only because i have a lot of time invested in it), then try Reaper for the next one.
Thanks Much. |
