My new comp, windows vista with Realtek....
shoutcast, simplecast, & BUTT are ALL not broadcasting the sounds now....

vista is confusing |
I took DD's quote from the DJ Specific section and a thread on problems with Simplecast. I do use Simplecast, but what I am posting now has more to do with Vista.
I Would be interested, DD, to hear if you eventually got your sound working. I have a problem at present when I use my Cakewalk SONAR7 on my Toshiba Equium laptop PC with Realtek HD. The driver is listed (in SONAR Options/Audio) as ASIO4ALL v2 Realtek HD
Problem in a nutshell:
(a) I can play (through the laptop speakers or earphones) a SONAR test file which is made up of MIDI tracks.
(b) I get silence when I try to play an audio track from Sonar.
Next I connect my Edirol USB UA25.
Under Options/Audio I deselect the ASIO4ALL and select EDIROL driver instead. Under Options/Midi Devices, I make sure EDIROL is ticked.
I also now have a test project opened in SONAR7 with one track audio and one track MIDI. When I play it, having closed and then opened Sonar afresh, I now hear the following:
EDIROL monitor: both MIDI and audio
LAPTOP speakers: no sound at all
Next, I plug in my Alesis USB 8 channel mixer. I close and re-open SONAR7. Now, I can hear the following:
EDIROL monitor: both MIDI and audio
LAPTOP speakers: MIDI only (no audio)
Next, leaving both EDIROL UA25 and ALESIS USB mixer plugged into the USB sockets (and switched on), I restart my laptop. This makes no difference.
Additional note:
When I record either from my mics or from my electronic piano (both input to my ALESIS mixer), I am able to record this as audio tracks in SONAR7. In this situation, when I am layering tracks, I monitor from the EDIROL UA25. This lets me hear both the backing or rhythm already in SONAR7 plus the sound I am currently making for the new track.
Summary of my attempts to explore this problem:
The Vista laptop on its own plays MIDI only
The EDIROL box takes the MIDI from the laptop and plays it PLUS it plays the audio files from SONAR
The ALESIS USB, when connected, causes MIDI to play through the laptop speakers once again, but no sound comes from the ALESIS monitor. Both audio and MIDI can be heard from the EDIROL monitor in this situation.
What I would like:
I would like to be able to hear both audio and MIDI when playing SONAR7 projects on my Vista laptop, not just the MIDI tracks. I know I can plug in the EDIROL but this seems like an unnecessary nuisance when I am only editing in SONAR and not recording any new tracks.
Any ideas? _________________ Real life website http://www.lewismusic.co.uk |

I could be way off, but it sounds like the playback needs to be reset to your soundcard under the Vista sounds control panel. _________________

np Norris, thanks for looking anyway.
Babble, I've been into Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound/Manage audio devices:
Playback tells me the Speakers are Realtek High Definition Audio and are working.
It is a puzzle _________________ Real life website http://www.lewismusic.co.uk |

umm.. just thought of this, but not sure if it's the same in Vista.
In the windows Control Panel, open 'Sounds and Audio Devices', go to the 'Audio' tab, and maybe tweak these settings.
Are they all set to the same card? If not, maybe try settting them all to you sound card, or switching a few around (noting down what they are initially, of course, ... should it make things worse. |

Sounds similar to the same issue I am having, which is to get the USB to broadcast to the soundcard - the only way to make this happen is to output from your hardware to the line in input of the soundcard, as far as I've been able to figure out. I'm not sure why Sonar isn't playing the audio tracks without the devices though. Anyway, I'm also avoiding Vista like the plague, so I can't be too helpful with specifics. _________________
