Hiya all,
Please excuse the misleading post title.....lol
Anyway, I've just recently been given a pressie of a G5 imac.. so with all the sound problems I've been having with my pc lately, I thought I'd try streaming from the mac. So, I go online and buy the full version of Nicecast, plus serial number etc..
I've been a pc user all my life, so using a mac was unchartered territory for me. I download Nicecast...and now I'm ready to open it up and enter serial code etc.. But... I can't even get it to open. I double-click etc and it pops up briefly in the toolbar at the bottom, but then it disappears. I have absolutely no idea what's going on.
Would any kind mac users be able to shed some light on this for a humble pc user such as myself? _________________ www.pocketpfeffer.wordpress.com

It sounds like it may be crashing so I wonder if it's installed correctly. If yes then I wonder whether you're running a high enough level of the Mac OS. You can determine the latter by clicking the Apple icon in the top left and selecting 'About This Mac' - That will show you the operating system version. Please update back here so we know if you're ok, on the right track, etc. _________________ Ever vigilant for da gooses overhead.

Hiya Silas...
Well I did as you suggested.. my operating system is 10.3.9....and being the bloody ejit that I can be sometimes, didn't check that in Nicecast as it says it's only compatible with 10.4 and up... I'm really tearing my hair out at this stage.
I reversed things a little, and streamed from the pc and logged onto SL from the mac. Unfortunately I'm still having major problems. I'm getting horrible distortions...that happen intermittently. The track sounds fine at first, then disintegrates into distortion, then gradually comes out of it...and of course, then starts the horrible process all over again. It's as if there's interference coming from somewhere but for the life of me, I can't figure it out.
I've read though so many different forums my head is spinning, and I still can't come up with a solution. Believe it or not, it's really beginning to depress me. I'm not a 'techhie' person really so I don't 'get' all that's being said about the technical side of it, all I want to do is sing and stream it successfully. I'd be grateful for any suggestions... and thanks for the reply Silas. _________________ www.pocketpfeffer.wordpress.com

umm.. dunno... but... if it sounds like interference, you might try this.
- disable wireless network card in your PC and Mac.
- disable the wireless function in your router.
- make sure no 'signal' cables are running parallel/on top of electrical cables.
If you're using wireles... get some cables to plug in with your network cards on both computers.
... just a shot in the dark that popped in my mind when i saw 'interference'.... |

The current Mac OS is 10.5.4 so it's a fairly substantial upgrade to get where you need it to be. You've got the worst of both worlds right now as SL is adequate on the Mac but is much more slick on Windows and streaming is dirt simple with Nicecast.
What I'd do is work with Norris to see if you can get streaming through Windows without tearing your hair out. If it looks like it'll be a huge hassle, you might want to consider the upgrade to 10.5.4 (Leopard). _________________ Ever vigilant for da gooses overhead.

Thanks so much for the help guys....
I think I will upgrade the mac, but in the meantime, I did sort of figure out a problem.
I upgraded winamp to the latest version.... and started streaming ....and apart from a few slight skips...everything was fine, no distortion.. Then I realised that I didn't have my mic plugged in.. So, after plugging it in, the distortion started up again...so I think it's the mic or the way it's connected. I have it plugged into the mic input on the front of my pc, with an adaptor..probably not the best way to go about it....
I have ordered a mixer so I'll have that in a few days....hoping that will make a difference...
My router isn't wireless capable...., but to be honest there are so many cables and wires around me, it's hard to figure out what's what.. But I will sort them out and make sure everything's where it's supposed to be... I'll let you know how I get on...and thanks again for the help _________________ www.pocketpfeffer.wordpress.com
