I use Reaper - it is a full featured DAW that has a Shoutcast plugin that will do what you need. As a full featured DAW, it allows you to do a lot more than simply stream into SL. This comes with some complexity and a price. However, the complexity is manageable and the price is small. Let me know if you want more details.
I have also used WinAmp with a Shoutcast plugin. IIRC, this may have been a free route to streaming.
Others may use others...
There's a lot of info here in the forum. When starting, I relied heavily on a post by Norris Shepherd -

Oooohhh.. Thanks Krell. I was gonna try to find that but you beat me to it. (although for the record.. i was re-posting stuff that others had written).
Just wondering bluejade, are you trying to stream music you already have recorded, or are you looking to stream yourself singing and/or playing live.
If you want to stream pre-recorded music, it's pretty straightforward and you should be able to figure it out with that other thread. |

Hi Bluejade. For what it is worth, I use SimpleCast. When I started I tried to get the freebies to work but they just wouldn't. In the end I bought SimpleCast from Spacial Audio http://www.spacialaudio.com and it has served me well.
I rent a small stream from them. I had a difficult problem with it about a month ago and their help team was excellent in terms of working through to a good solution. I mean I guess folks could find something cheaper but I'm going to stick with what works for me.
Hope this helps _________________ Real life website http://www.lewismusic.co.uk

And, to add my half-penny's worth, you really don't need a stream at all because there are dozens of folks who will let you use their streams. But, I agree with Fyrm 200% ... I love my SimpleCast software. And, I get a copy of every show I perform (in MP3 format) put into my "shows" directory ... for later review.
Having said "you really don't need a stream at all" ... I have two streams: one is an auto DJ that plays a 60 minute "demo" of my music 24/7 and one for my little stage I have out back of my "house." But that's all fluff. You can do just fine without that. _________________ Ray
