Does anyone have a good Chat Relay system? I would like to pull chat in from up to 40m. I have one ... but it doesn't seem to work well.

So, what's the problem. First, it's about 8m from the stage to the floor. Then, there's 10m of dance floor. Then there's 10 m of sitting. I can't hear the people sitting. Would be nice.

Thanks.

I would be into this as well. My first blush impression after a couple weeks of gigs in SL is I wouldn't mind if performance areas were tightened up so I could see more chat from the stage. It really helps keep track of who's coming and going.

When both Rocky Shores and Blue Haven were built, we paid VERY close attention to the chat range from the mic. We even had a 10x10 pic of the area with the chat range marked out rezzed on site as we were laying it out. This puts most of the action within chat range and leaves 'fringe' space for folks who wanna listen but not interact (these are mostly couples talking in im Wink ).

Problem?? I've had a lot of comments that, although people love Rocky Shores, there isn't enough room and it gets very crowded. When we expand in a couple weeks this will be partially addressed by the placement of the stage on the border between the two sims with the equivalent of the existing Rocky Shores layout on either side. But since I expect the crowds to double, I expect that it will still feel cramped at times. The audience does not understand the reason behind this (and they shouldn't need to).

A 'chat relay' object of some sort that I could place in the stage to allow the performer to follow and interact with chat from farther away would be a REAL blessing!!! I can see a lot of issues which would need to be addressed, but I'll bet they're all addressable.

For a while in SL I was having this same trouble - it's a long story but basically I needed to be able to follow chat in one area of my land while remaining on another area out of range. I got this HUD that is basically designed to spy on people and is probably totally against the TOS, but it has been such a lifesaver for me. I can drop a tiny object on the ground and it relays the nearby public chat back to me - anywhere in SL. I can also attach it to people but generally I leave it in my office so that it functions much like the way a skype chatroom does and thus relays the things I've missed while I was out working on other projects.

I can't remember the shop name where I got it, but probably if you want a tool like that you're going to have to get it from a shady dealer, since mostly people use them for not so nice purposes. I can double check if you ping me in world and remind me. I think it does a LOT of things that I have never even bothered learning to use, actually. (Mostly I just use it because it scans the sim and tells me who is around.)

I'll check with you in world. A multi-faceted HUD would probably be way too complicated, much more than's needed and it would be the artist that would need to be using it. I need something I can place in the stage which will relay distant chat to whomever is standing on the stage. But I'll bet you that whomever made this thing could make my thing!!!! A fee would need to be paid, I'm sure, but perhaps I could get permission to offer it to other venue owners/builders at a small fee to cover that charge. I will explore it and post what I find back here.

As for the TOS issue, if ONLY open chat is being relayed, I doubt there would be an issue. It's when you begin spying on IM (which I've heard these spy huds can also do) that you break the TOS. To be on the safe side, I think it would be wise to post signs in the area from which the chat was being relayed so everyone knew it was going on. If this flies, I'll package such signs in with the relay (if I end up being the one distributing it, the scripter may insist on being the distributer...again, I'll post all that when I have more info).

nah... as far as i know this one can't track private IMs. i know it can track avatars using their UUID but i never use that feature. it relays public chat only.

probably what you need is a two prim setup that relays chat from one area to another and back again. i bet that's not hard to script and this guy could probably do it easily. i will find his name for you next time i'm on the grid.

ps - we're neighbors in RL. ha. helloooo.

BTW ... what you two are talking about is what mine does.

I have a set by Adriana Calagari. A Listen Repeater and Listen Master.

I have them on my Radiance Stage in FairChang Ibiza. I'll turn them on and leave them on. If you want, see if they work for you.

The Master is the pyramid on the stage and the Repeaters are little golden balls on the some of the rail posts.

If they work for you, I must have just had a bad test group, standing in a dead spot, and just need to relocate the listeners.
