When I play a show, I have myself logged in and streaming up to SL from Laptop #1. Anyone who has been to my shows knows that my piano is over the other side of my little studio from where the laptop/mixer and vocal mic for when I'm playing guitar is located. So in my piano set I have to keep getting up and walking over to look at the screen in order to respond to the chat that is occurring while I'm playing piano.
My current laptop uses Windows Vista. My old laptop is still functional and I also have a Windows XP notebook which works ok. I don't want to stream through either of those, but could I use one as a second monitor? And if so, how would I do that? If this is possible, please give me some advice on the sort of cable connection I would need to make between Laptop #1 and Laptop #2. Would a USB cable do the trick, for example?

I'd second Alazarin's comment. A few months ago I threw out a dozen CRT type 15" and 17" monitors.. and i've got 2 more here to get rid of. Not even the local schools wanted them. I'm sure you'd be able to find one for next to nothing.
Or get a flat monitor, they sell them starting at around 100$ now... not too crazy expensive.
And you'd need a VGA cable extender... or a DVM (i think?) type cable connector. ... if you get a new one make sure that the cable would plug into your existing laptop (there's a couple different connection types in common use)
